Hi does anyone know if i could build a perspex cover over my amps in the boot i have 2 small fans running when the amps are on will this bi enough or will i cause them to overheat? There are 8 amps and one crossover on a flat base with fans in the middle.

8 amps is alot! probably best to use another pair of fans, 2 blowing in and 2 sucking out to create a constant airfow

Thanks Stevo will get on it bought the car with everything already fitted but it is is all Alpine 1990s retro it was a sound off car and seems to have wone a lot of comps one amp was missing 2 only had one channel but i have managed to get the same ones off ebay there was nothing to keep the dust and moister out thats why i thought a perspex cover would help the back seat panel has been replaced with a custom job which has 8 8inch subs there are also custom door builds in front and rear panels there is one custom job i have not seen before a centre channel with 2 tweeters has been very cleverly placed behind the middle air vent the vent still works and turns like normal sorry for rambling on. Was this the one that was for sale on ebay a couple of weeks ago??

A lot of the over heating issues varie on the make of the amp. My companies amps overheat something silly but that's because of a poorly designed heat sink.

Just give it a go mate. Trial and error will soon tell. Homebase sell perspex very cheap. If it gets too hot drill a couple of holes in the perspex in a pretty pattern to allow a bit more of the heat to escape and leave at least an inch gap between the amp and the perspex.

Thanks Daryll, yes bought it from ebay thought it might have been an Alpina hiding away in there so i took a chance dont think its been done at factory but it came with receipts for the wheels ,steering wheel and front and rear spoilers so apart from the ICE it was cheap.

alpine amps are usually pretty good at sitting close to each other and running quite happily in big installs.

any pictures of the install? would like to see it.

very impressive.

questions:

is that an upside down amp on the underside of the boot floor?

how low is the suspension on the back?

have the rear shock towers been reinforced? and are they healthy? (any rust there would worry me silly carrying that weight)

is the rear seat-back still in place?

The amps are built into a false floor witch is hinged the upside down amp and crossover is on the underside of that, the shocktowers are fine no rust at all it has bilstien shock which look prety new and yes the back seat is just as it should be. J.

might be worth turning the upside down amp the right way up - heatsinks are useless below any heat source. at least worth considering.

see what you mean about the perspex cover now. if it was me and i'd decided on the perspex i'd put some perforations for the fans (as daryll suggests) to start with and do some temperature testing before and after it's installation to ensure all is well.

i've never seen it but i have heard of rear springs coming through the tops of shock towers when cars carry a load of weight - hence the questions. bet that install goes quite loud....
