Hi to all,
I've been reading the M30 threads and decided to go for the swap this winter. I got a 89 735i auto block and found manual gearboxs with GETREG 225 and 226. Which one is used in 735i ? Can I use Auto loom and ECU with manual box ? Please help.. :(

e32 and e34 3.0 and 3.5 manuals use a getrag 260 variant. basically the m20 2.5 box with a different bellhousing cast into the casing. a good strong box.

auto loom and ecu are fine with manual box, no mods necessary.

Thanks Toby,
I will also planning to move the air box to left with a 45 digree bent hose from AFM and will use a K&N filter.
About lightning the flywheel and crank, how much can be grinded out from these ?

e28 535i/m535i single mass flywheel is a better option than the e32/e34 dual mass one. not sure how much you can remove from the e28 one. standard weight 12 ish kg i think.

unless you're racing, i wouldn't bother lightening the flywheel. a M30 hardly labours over spinning it up! that said, with a lovely overlapping torque spread (large straight 6 related bonus) it would probably run fine without one! :D

I found an E36 m52's manual gearbox with full clutch assm. and the guy at the swap shop said it will fit on M30 engine. Does it works ?
Also difficuelt to find M30 clutch master cylinder. which other models i can salvage frpm ? a full Z3 1.9 (low milage 1998 model) manual gearbox is availabe,

but not cheap, guy is asking 200KD(kuwaiti dinar) !! M30 full engine, ECU, wiring with A/c compressor, manifold and rear box from E32 735i (running engine !!) i got it for 70 KD.

the m52 box is very unlilkely to fit. i'm sure it fits the m20 engine, which therefore means not the m30 as the bellhousing bolt pattern is different. :(

Thanx Toby and Gareth,
The guy in the swapshop was trying to cheat me . . .Now i found a GETREG 260 with 240mm clutch and cheked the parts my friend (an ex-bmw mech), agreed on 60 KD(kuwati dinar). I'll be collecting the manual gear box on monday. Now the problem with finding a complete GEAR SHIFT LINKAGE !!!! Please refer someone who can really trust to make a deal (prefer zoners) . . .

It's very rare to see a manual geared BM here. There were a lot before the the Iraq war. After the war(officialy), most of them were taken to Iraq.... At that time I sold my 306 GTi and another malasisan proton 16v (lotus designed) like hotcake.
Now, once in a while i can spot a M5 or M6. As far as i know only 2 or 3 E30 M3's (not daily driver car)

gear linkages should be easy enough to sort out. mine just uses a standard E30 325i linkage. your current one could be adapted to fit though...

i also swapped the 325i gearstick for a 1.9 Z3 one as it's got a faster action.

Yaa ...both the engine, box and all the linkage removed from a special spec. 535. needs some cleanup and painting badly.
can i use the speedo (260 km) from the same car ?
Can I mount E36 front suspension on E30 with 740iL brake set-up ? the size of the caliper and rotor really tempting for this attempt. any comments . . . .please forwad....
I'll be soon opening a new thread 'first M30 in Kuwait' with swap photos. expect more questions related to electrical/wiring from me. . . ..rest, I hope sorted out . .
