my bonnet is ruined
Moderator: martauto
I have my car garaged always and 95% of the time
there is a cover over it also.
I took the cover off yesterday and was going to put the cover back
on it again today when i noticed that there are little pieces of steel or
iron filings that must have blown off the workbench in the garage.
Im afraid to just wash them off for fear of scratching
the bonnet if i take a sponge to it.
Any ideas?

IMO lift them off with a magnet if possible, otherwise dab them with a sticky surface like the sticky side of masking take.
Go very slow take your time and apply no sideways motion or pressure at all!
best ask a pro first tho.

I'd open the bonnet a bit and hose it down with lots of water at low pressure. It should all just run off the front edge. If there's loads of dust on there, start at the front (lower) end of the bonnet so you don't have loads of dust suspended in the water at once.

Ouch, so they are embedded in the paint? Now I see the problem
You might be able to use one of those sticky suit cleaning rollers - most dry cleaners have them.

I like the hoover idea. Just get the extendable bit and make sure when you put it down you cover it so it causes a vacume (or makes the hoover roar... you know, like when you accidently catch skin
) That ought to get the little buggers!!

i think you can buy a lump of clay designed for removing industrial fallout and since fallout is sometimes metal particles it might do the trick. only thing is i have no idea what its called or where to buy it
if its gone rusty it will more than likely have bit into the paint so it might just be easier to get it buffed and polished

detailing caly is desgined to be rubbed across the surface and is what he is trying to avoid
get some blu tack and play with it a bit untill its quite eticky and then dab at it, or try and pick them out with your fingernail, if thoise fail then try and get them buffed out, a picture would help, preferable the rough size too, are they quite large or more of a fine dust?
