Cost of Brakes

As the title suggests, my brakes on the touring need doing...

calipers look original-so they'll need to go,

discs are gubbed so gonna get zimmermans also new master cylinder

putting Pgid fast roads on it too probably.....

so far by my calculations the cost will be Ԛ£422 for parts

does anyone know of any alternative setups that would be similar in performance but cheaper??

The calipers are about Ԛ£45 each-how much are uprated ones?

all prices are from GSF

i'd be grateful for your opinions or ideas on this!!!!

Does yours already have vented dics or is that just the 325? If it doesn't and you're going to change the calipers you may as well upgrade to the vented discs.

I recent changed all the discs and pads on mine for Ԛ£100. Just went for standard stuff and it stops pretty well. The cheapest improvement would be to upgrade your pads....

front discs are vented as standard, but the whole braking system looks like it has never been touched, so i'm thinking i should replace everything.

the zimmerman discs are vented and cross drilled, and the pagid fast road pads appear to get a good name on the zone, even from guys who push their cars a lot harder than I intend to.

I must say that braking is the only area that i'm not impressed with on my touring, so I suppose I've gotta do it

I put the same zimmerman discs and pagid pads on my 325. For the cost of a couple of hundred quid certainly could'nt grumble.

Done a couple of track days and they were fine.

yup, iԚ´m going to do brakes too for deffo now, as the back is really beginning to warm up, and im worried as its right over the tank

2 front d, 2 rear d, pads all round, fluid and new locking bolts...250 all in

Don't see the point in fitting new calipers and m/cylinder unless there's something definitely wrong with them.
Never changed an E30 caliper or m/cylinder in my life, or come across one that looked like things could be improved by doing so.

I got to agree with Mr Moooooooooore,i've never come across knackered calipers,at worst they only need an overhaul if the pistons a bit sticky,but thats an easy job to do.
An hour or so spent on each caliper,you can have them looking and working like new.
I managed to get a pair of calipers working on a 1978 Peugeot 504 that had been sat for 12 years,just needs a bit of time.

all the calipers seem to be working,and the master cylinder doesnt seem to be leaking so I could just leave them...

would drop the cost by about Ԛ£260 which would pay for the labour!

I just thought that as they looked old/original so i'd better replace them..

How about Ԛ£400+vat for a Wilwood brake kit with 4pot calipers, bigger discs, bracketry and pads?

I went through the same working out process and thought that the extra little bit was worth it as the standard 325i brakes are shite!

I wouldn't say there shit,I've never got into issues with them.

However if your talking track car or you drive in a license loseing manner then maybe your right!
