Well, my car went into the bodyshop this morning

Next time I see her, she'll be fitted with newly sprayed Mtech 2 door pods + skirts to match the front/rear bumper (cheers Khan325 - they're in great nick!), new rear arches - sprayed, resprayed front and rear bumper, sills sorted, rust on bootlid sorted and bootlid resprayed and maybe even mirrors and rear spoiler resprayed if they get time (the old "girlie fluttering the eyelids" trick got me this one!)

 8) :D

Watch this space for pictures at the end of the week!

Seems like loads of E30's are in the bodyshop at the moment!

Kedge, another one here, my M3 is going in for some major surgery in the next 2 weeks, scuttle replaced, front and rear bumper re-painted and evo lip spoiler fitted, new rear panel fitted, rear spoiler re-painted and rear arches seen to....phew!

Got to get my scuttle and arches done but decent body work is expensive !

How bad is your scuttle ?

Are they replacing the whole panel or cutting the rust out and repairing it ?

My scuttle has got a small hole on either side, superficially(sp?) it doesn't look to rotten but you can't really tell untill they let rip with a grinder

The scuttle is very bad, I have put my finger through the O/S. It hasn't spread to the firewall and is confined to the scuttle panel itself.

I have a new scuttle panel here waiting, but I'm having my body man to cut the vin and serial number out of the original scuttle as BMW (or the company the contracts to them) have done a really crap job of stamping the VIN into the scuttle, and crumpled the metal, and they won't stamp the body serial number into a new scuttle either.

I've just got to hope with mine that the rust hasn't crepted under the wing ?

On yours if they are replacing the panel then i'm guessing they will have to remove the bonded in wind screen and the wing's,will the dash have to come out as well ?

Yes mate, big job, windscreen out, wings off, and dashboard out too.

Rust can creep down under the wing, mine doesn't seem to have though.

I was only discussing tourings and rust recently with Stephen (325sme) and how they don't seem to suffer anywhere near as bad as the saloons do, especially around the rear arches and scuttle, I've yet to see a touring with a rusty scuttle, strange you should mention yours has a rusty scuttle!

Always a frightening prospect seeing rust, the only way to be realistic is to see the rust spot, and multiply your imagined cost by 5,then you'll be somewhere close to the actual cost of the repair.
