Has anyone had any experience of the auto box on track?
I cannot drive a manual but love the track so am just wondering what its like.
Whats the kickdown like? Does the box have a habit of changing gear mid corner? Is the box quite predictable?
Cheers for the help in advance.

You should be ok, from memory a guy under the name of Monsport has an Auto 325i Sport which he takes on track.
No real problem with it. Go for it!

Then you'll be fine. If i drove an auto on track i'd have gone insane by the end of the first lap, but that's because i know what a manual is like to drive. If you've never known it then you'll be none the wiser.califunky wrote:I cannot drive a manual

auto's are ace on a track, or doing point to point.
gives you the ability to work on hitting the apex and carrying speed through the corner- all without worrying about the gear, engine revs etc.
you can add that in at a later date, once you have built up confidence and ability

Hmmm - have to disagree. It's fine if you're pootling around, but if you're 'poised on a knife-edge of grip' and it kicks down a cog, I think you'd exit stage left PDQ.320Touring wrote:auto's are ace on a track, or doing point to point.

driving on a track is about pushing you and your car to the limit.
if its switchable sports mode it wont kick down in 1,2 or 3
have fun, but watch that the gearbox fluids dont heat up too much.
