Rev counter broken
Moderator: martauto
It could be a fuse, I somehow managed to blow the fuse for the rev counter when I was fitting my stereo. Can't remember what number it was but if it is blown you'll find it with the rest in the fuse box under the bonnet. Hope this helps

could be one of a few faults.
could be dead SI board batteries.
could be a loose connection inside the cluster.
could be just a dead rev counter.
or could be the wrong code plug inserted into the cluster.
how long has it been broken?
does it sometimes work if you hit it?
do any of the other instruments not work? (eg MPG swingometer thingy)
(or it could just be a fuse)

hi i had a problem with my instrument cluster. the rev counter stopped working which i ignored. Then the fuel economy meter stopped working. It was likely to have been a faulty SI board (the battery on the back of can go flat too if theyre too old.
I bought a new replacement cluster from a BMW salvager which cost 30 quid but solved the problem. Might be worth thinking about if you don't have any luck fixing your instrument cluster

I had this problem but sorted it by replacing the rev counter, and screwed in another one from a younger(G-plate) 325! Works perfect now!!

I had the same problem with my temp gauge, I took the cluster out and found that the nut holding the gauge onto the board was mega loose, screwed it tight and it's spot on now. The nut holding the fuel gauge on was completely missing though

Ive had this problem a couple of times, i just had to replace fuse 21 i think, also i removed this fuse last week and it stopped the interior lights and the cd working, so check these are working.
no rev counter would be a nightmare!!! especially for me cause my speedo dont work!
could these solutions for the rev counter also have the same affect for the speedo?(not stealing the tread, just developing
).
i have changed my speedo sensor on the dif but only works occasionally and if you punch the dash some times it works?
does the rev counter connect to the dif or gear box?
oh so many questions.
