Hi all,
Apart from being illegal on open road, what are the drawbacks of using them on an E30. I'm sent in Borat's country for a year and it's dark as hell on the road :(

Thanks

My mate uses 130 watt bulbs in both dipped and high beam, no problems, nothing melting etc :)

I've got 130s for the high beams, no problems with them so far. No smoke or smells anyway.

Short answer is no! IMHO, the wiring is a bit thin with the standard bulbs, and the voltage drop with 160W bulbs would be a bit excessive, without considering other things.
160W bulbs will pass a current of about 13A each, so replace the fuses with 15A or 20A ones, and replace the wiring from the fuse holders to the lights with a minimum of 1.5 (square) mm cable. Replace the earths from the lamps as well.

Thanks Brian, in this country people drive with lights on all the time so I'm not taking the risk with the 160W. I think I'll try the 100w then.
