Moderator: martauto
as a couple of you are aware, im lookin to get myself a nice 325i. Im goin to buy a nice, rust free, bog standard one and spend the rest of my hard earned cash on makin it look how i want it to.
I konw i definately want the full M-Tecc kit on it and in a colour i cant say lol maritaus blue?? is that right? lol
Ideally lookin for a convertible with hard top.
I was just wondering if any of you guys have had your beemers repsrayed and how much it cost? Im sure there are different factors that come into place but any feedback would be appreciated
Thanks guys

Prices vary SO much between bodyshops, it's worth going to a few different places to get prices. Also ask to see some cars which they have sprayed to get a representation of the quality of their work.
Good luck.
p.s. Please don't write in your titles, they are bold as standard. Thanks.

Ive had mine done. Best advise isnt always getting the lowest price but use a guy that has a proven track record. Get someone a few hundred quid cheaper and you could spend hundreds making it right. You can always keep the price down by doing some of the preparing yourself.
i did a colour change on mine, althought i did it all my self (im a panel beater/ sprayer) and it cost me sod all.
i do the estimateing at the place i work,to paint an e30 i would be charging at least Ԛ£2000 /Ԛ£2500, there`a a lot of work involved in stripping a car down for a colour change, i dont belive in masking parts up im my opinion its lazy and cheap and you can allways tell, and makes a good job look bad.
as far as prepping it youself i wouldnt bother, a decent body shop (or paintsprayer) wont paint it for ya.
am sure theres things i havent mentiond, you would like to know? just ask im happy to help.

So if you'd had a shell acid dipped and then zinc phosphate dipped (or whatever it is they do) and then carted off to be sprayed with it's doors and other openy bits seperate, would that bring the price down a bit?
it would still be expensive m8, it then has to be flatted, primed, flatted again then painted, then the hassle of movin the shell about, then putting all the panels in after the shells been sorted, all in all probly no cheaper in my opinion than an ordinary respray

Yep as far as a E30 goes for a repaint its a pricey affair.. Well to get done properly their big and it aint no Saxo! Im a painter and people just dont know how much work goes in to it!! If you have the engine bay done too? But as for cost 1,200 on wards is a good quote I would say about 2.000 myself give or take a few 100 quid of corse depending on colour, condition and expectations! A good painter will prep him self as the prep is as important as slapping the paint on, Paint has a habit of showing crap prep work and a painter will wont to know any problem areas first... Wot do you guys think of having a Black engine bay with a different colour body whilst we are on the subject??

was £1500 + vat for full respray including engine bay on a sport which already had new 3/4 panel fitted and was derusted before and all other panels had small dents in. Quote on my tech2 touring for colour change was £1100 +vat and it was very straight and no rust and i removed some of the trim myself
some good prices youve been quoted there willg, when you say colour change? is that including doors off etc and insides painting or just an the out side of the car, would they take all the body kit off or just paint it all fitted?
OBs, startin on waterbased(lesonol) next few weeks some time m8, all our gear just turned up at work today funnily enough, but ive heard its a bitch to work with, but were running it along side our solvent for a while (ppg deltron) .at least the clears are still solvent based

I am a painter myself too,its good to know there are more that do the job on here.If you guys are only going onto waterbase dont worry about it its as easy to paint as solvent basecoat only thing is you need to make sure it dry before you give it another coat.
As for a quote on a nice paint job the place I work is expensive you would be looking at around £2500
but the work goes with the price,we do all the footballers cars and do a lot of feature cars and show cars so our work has to be 100% all of the time

I had the complete shell inside and out done on my RS turbo Series 1 (sorry) and it cost £1500. I went to a good garage and asked for a cash price
I was quoted $2200 through the books. this included me taking the interior out, wiring loom and engine/gearbox and new bonnet, rear panel, front wing(2 accedents with non insured drivers) and everything else that i could do in my garage. the result was amazing and was very well done.
But like its said above its all down to the right sprayer. All i can say is go to loads and have a good look at there work.
Just my 2p worth

I live in Halifax which is oly 5 mins away (border Elland)
i still paint all my cars myself and a few for my mate's but left the trade to go back on the spanners lol,
there is a lot of work involved and some good price's have been posted. with a full hit materials are the
killer also as mentioned the strip and fit is time consumimg on a full hit. as for self prep i used to do this
for a few folk but it will still need the onece over by whoever doing the job and in my opinion a waste of time
as bits get missed and any bogus repairs will only spoil what would have been a perfect job. choose wisely
and pay as much as you can aford as a full pro job will make your e30 look a stunner.
