Was wondering if any body had any advice on getting more power from my 320i, I don't want to go down the route of a 325i engine change just yet. Would a throttle body from a 325 make a difference ? And would it bolt straight on ? Or even a ecu from a 325, what difference would this make, and would it make my engine less reliable ? Sorry but i'm not that clever when it comes to engines, so any help is great. Thanx :gives:

Here we go again! 325 TB with or without the 325 inlet manifold and a zone chip is about the only things that you can do with a 320, but in all honesty, it's a shame to part that manifold and throttle body from the engine it's attached to.

the last thing i would be doing on a 320 is increasing the throttle size unless you want loss of low end torque and minimal gains up top.

Have you tried it?

People who have say it's a good mod!

320 is a bit strangled in standard form, so responds well to the increase.
Should have added that these are not just bolt on mods - the manifold face has to be opened out to match the size of the TB.

http://www.q-e-p.co.uk/ will sell you a catcams replacement camshaft in whatever spec you want for about £220. The wildest you can go on otherwise standard internals is 283/283 - QEP say that this cam will idle OK if a bit lumpy with a zone or other decent performance chip, and will pass emissions on the MoT. It is recommended that you replace the rockers when changing the cam profile - QEP will sell you a full set for c.£100.
What will this get you? Neither catcams nor QEP make any power claims, but Kent and Piper both make similarly timed parts and claim about 15 bhp more.
The real value will be in the area under the torque curve, especially above 4k where the standard engine starts dropping off - this mod will see the engine scream through to 7k (and beyond if your ECU lets it).

putting a bbtb on my 325i did very little up top and noticeably hurt low end performance when the car was stock but i purchsed it knowing that the car wouldn't be stock for much longer.

I would love to see any proof that a bbtb on a 320i does anything positive
