Brute force is about the only way I believe,I doubt it's glued as they are just pretty damn stiff anyway,go on lad, give it some more!

Worse comes to the worse, pair of pliers round the top and twist, it will break the nob and then clean the stick up, if it has glue on it that is, if not just fit your new one.

Mine was the same... it WOULD NOT come off... you REALLY have to yank it off. Mind your face though...

If you dont mind breaking it put a tube on the top and hammer it down ..it breaks the seal and the knob...at least it did in mine

Swirly, if the one your trying to remove is not a genuine bmw part, you may find that there is a small allen screw holding it on, i found this on my illuminated one, cheers Dave.

I managed to fit the Mtech knob today, but i didnt realise it would be so much hassel, maybe i bodge it but hey!! I pull the gearknob off and there was a black plastic 'shief' or cover type thing that allowed my standard knob to slot in, but it was massive and it wouldnt let the new one slide on so i tried pulling it off...no go.
Had a look at my brothers is knob and noticed it was just the metal gearlevel underneath, so i got a hacksaw and cut away at the black plastic bit, which was a cnut to remove, then cleaned it up and the new one fits on fine.
Cheers guys

mine has 3 tiny allen head bolts around the lower rim, i think its only the illuminated ones and their only on m-tech ones for a stiffer hold.

Mine's an all-in-one illuminated gearknob, and there's no allen keys... was just REALLY stiff... ooo-er.
