Andy 335 is running without AFM, he has emerald engine management to enable it though dude

Emerald is c £900 if you fit it yourself( mapping is covered iirc )

you can achieve the same end result ( no AFM or MAF) with Megasquirt for under £200 if you can solder, or buy a fully built kit from someone reputable ( me  ) inc a basemap and loom and have the wholse thing running for £500 ish.

not a cheap option, but arguable worthwhile ( we got 18% torque increase from loosing the AFM on an N/A M20B25 and 8% HP right through the rpm range )

It depends on the tune/maps.

I think Ant says he's had good MPG on the MS equiped cars he has tuned

i suppose if you have full control over everything on the management side, much better economy could be achieved (if that was the main objective) rather than power. but that would be silly!

Ahh, but you can have both dude

Map to best power/delivery whatever you want to call it, then add variables that allow for a lean cruise situation and save a fortune

so, example, MAP to 13.1:1 AFR for "best power" then if the TPS signal is unchanged for , say 3 seconds you get the ECU to "look" at the Lambda feedback, then revert to closed loop fuelling until TPS changes again.

In theory you could use a rough map of values, fit a wideband 02 sensor, closed loop the entire range of the engine, and allow a 25% 02 trim function, in practise you cant as if the 02 fails, so does the engine, exceptions are ECU's with "fuzzy logic" that can kinda self learn and retain the trimmed settings as trims to the basemap, modern cars from 01 onwards use this technology, and revert to the safe basemap to limp you home if something goes pear shaped.

make sense ?

i can solder and im not bad on wiring and stuff but i wouldnt have the first clue about mapping.

is this something i could get from yourself and just fit it and go? or would there be a huge amount of tweaking.....bear in mind im probably about as far away from your area as its possible to get, popping round for a remap is pretty much impossible. £500 ish sounds reasonable to me for the sort of gains im possibly going to achieve. £900 for emerald is too much for me i think
