Hi all, I'm a newbie and not even an owner, not yet anyway!!
I have the good fortune to be able to get my hands on my mate's '88 325 2dr. It had an original M-tec kit fitted by supplying dealer in '90, comes in lachs silver, dechromed, 17" Alpinas (not genuine), scorpion dtm, re-map, fast road cam and she howls! Anyway, my mate will let me have it for Ԛ£500and I know I am onto a good thing with the car as I have known it for 5 years and I have a folder with about Ԛ£8K of receipts for work done to it, both essential work and mods. The rear arches are bubbling, there is a scab on the boot lid, n/s/r wing next to ariel post and the driver's door has a small bubble coming up. I have had a quote of Ԛ£500 for this getting done properly and not just slapping in some filler.
3 Questions:
1- Does this sound a fair price, considering the car is virtually going to have a bottom half respray?
2- Do any meets go on around the York area?
3- any zoners go to York dragstrip?
excellent site though, full of useful info and like minded petrol heads!

laddie
welcome
500 sounds very cheap to me for that amount of bodywork, especailly in silver as it will need colour matching and clear coat blending. if i was to pay that money i'd want to see the car at every stage to make sure it's being done right. (thinking about it that's perhaps not too bad an idea no matter who does it and what they charge. inspecting repairs after welding and before smoothing you know they're done right. ensure any rot is cut out too, not just patched over)
i'm sure you'll find northen meets.
enjoy!

Sounds pretty cheap that does mate for that amount of bodywork, also a good deal on the car.
Theres northern meets a ferrybridge services, just keep an eye on the meets section.
Good look.

Thanks for the comments guys, will get a couple more quotes before taking the plunge.
Diz - the pic of your car is the spitting image of the one i'm getting. I was up at the dragway a fair few weekends last year, remeber seing a silver 325i there with E36 M3 alloys on. Definately considering giving the old girl a few blasts down te quarter mile later in the year, much less risk of damaging the car than letting some fool wipe you out on a track day.
Bloody electric windows have stopped working today, they weren't working when i picked the car up from my mate, but a blown fuse cured it. When they stopped working today I assumed the fuse had blown again but it is ok. The windows were very slow, don't know if this was worn motors, mechanisms or both. Is this a character trait of the E30 and what's the usual fault, switches? Would both go simultaneously?

One of the biggest problems is rust.Make sure as simon said that under the kit is all ok, just try to have a look under the archs and where the kit meets the archs, check theres not any sh*t in there. Also check underneath the windscreen as you lift the bonnet up.It sounds good though, even if you sold the wheels, body kit, engine etc you could make at least 3 times as much as what hes offering it for once its broken up
