I'm going to paint the spokes on a set of BBS Xspokes black. I can't get the centre caps dismantled, as I want to keep the nut silver and also clean all the muck out.

I've got the metal tension ring out of the back, but there's another plastic ring further inside keeping it all together that I can't get out.

Anyone any idea how to do this before I break something, or is it just a case of using masking tape.k?

Cheers,

Mick

i think u would be better spending some time with masking tape rather than dismantling them as one of mine had been taken apart and its never sat on the wheel very snugly since. i can hear mine rattling when i go over bumps, so it must sound a bit crap outside the car :o:

The black plastic ring on the inside clips off, which is all that holds the three components together (black plastic ring, centre piece. outer ring).

Thanks Chris, the whole thing seemed too brittle, but I've eventually got it off.

Cheers,

gents anyone know if you can use the centre lock nut on a 14in bbs centre cap to replace a broken centre nut on a 15in bbs cap (saves me buying a whole new cap if you can, and it will be cheaper to repair any others)

I have some slight experience with the BBS 8O

all the ones I have dismantled are part number 09.23.114 (this number is not visible 'undismantled'), are interchangeable, and are 79mm (outer hexagon)

yeah don't get me wrong, they look in pretty nice condition. I'm just amazed that you've got so many.

those are only the dismantled ones!!! (apart from the two on the edge of the box which show I have 15s and 14s so I do know there is no difference in the hexagon)

and the camera sometimes lies

some of them are in very poor condition; mostly scrapyard morsels, some from a cheap set of 15s, and a cheap set of 14s, some from Ebay. I have quite a few wheels to go with some of them

I like spares :D

all a bit mad really as I'm going to put my winter wheels on today - 16" Hartges - much easier to clean :D

ish - I have wheel issues - my mates call me 'Tyre Towers' as I stack the wheels up to stop the tyres deforming, and the towers are high and the towers are many......

and I've been lucky finding caps at the scrapyard - I think I've got 8 good ones from there.

Right - must pop out and swop some wheels round

i have some outer surrounds that are 15in and missing the nut but the 14in ones are cheap and if i can change the nut over from 14 to 15 it will be worth it ....i know the nut itself is the same size for the tool so can the centre of a 14in fit the outer surround of a 15in centre good of to buy some 14in centres to violate...

Nice to know I'm not the only one! at one time i counted 22 wheels and 4 tyres in my house!

Now down to 4 wheels in the house 8 wheels holding up my breakers and obviously the wheels on my daily drive and the 320i

5+5+4+5 in the garage
4+5 and 4 just-tyres in the shed
ooh at least 16 under the trees (mostly old MG wheels that need total refurbs, 5x MK1 Golf 13" 9-spokes and some 14" Bottletops so don't panic)
and 11 (from memory) in the loft - no tyres on these

my excuse is that I have 4 cars which move and 2 which do not... these 6 cars have another 24 wheels actually ON the cars as well, of course, plus 2 proper spares and a space-saver spare...

I'm too scared to add all these up

Nothing wrong with a bit of recreational cross dressing.
