Further to an earlier post my car was clipped by a bint in a 4x4 in a car park who promptly drove off. Feds have been informed and have a witness and the offending vehicle reg, meantime they have told me to get a quote from the local dealer. I'm not going to be able to do this until next weekend so was wondering if any of you fellas with the gen could give me a ballpark figure? - Damage as follows:

Front bumper trim (black- houses reg plate)) ripped off - needs replaced

Bumper casing scratched, plastic shredded, not bad but not the point

Driver side wing, 50p sized scuff

Lower front valance - deeper scuff about the size of a mars bar

Cracked foglight driver side

What we talking here, couple o hundred?

Cheers

to repaint wing and valance, replace fog light and black trim from a main dealer who will charge Ԛ£50+ per hour ,id say probably Ԛ£500-Ԛ£600,maybe more.the insurance might just want to write it off if its a basic e30 which means you could buy it back from the insurance company for buttons and fix it yourself .

you are looking at Ԛ£200 for just labout and paint in my opinion.. but lot less if you are gonna do it yourself and buy second hand bits. probably easier and cheaper to change for a 2nd hand wing rather than fill sand and spray it.

Well I'd be happy enough to go independant but this is what the cops told me to do.

I'll be fzuked if I'm paying for it

Why would her insurance company want to write my car off?, is this the scenario of a cheque for Ԛ£500 but a written off car? - that can't be right can it?

Sorry but i've not been in this position before :(

what car do you have? a basic 320 for instance has a book price of only Ԛ£400,not worth repairing in their eyes.

Well with mods if I was selling I'd want Ԛ£1500 - Ԛ£2000, its a minter

insurance values differ greatly to ours.you might have a 325 minter but they only see a 17 year old good conditioned bmw.dont get a quote from the main dealer,go to a smaller local sprayshop who will probably charge half of the main dealer per hour and when you get a payout best to buy and fit the trim and foglight yourself and pocket any cash saved.

Cheers for advice

Was going to go to my usual bodyshop but it was the cops that said go to the dealer, will get an independant quote.

So if an insurance company pays out say Ԛ£600 quid and say (in their opinion) the car is worth Ԛ£750 - is payment conditonal on the car being written off?

if the payout isnt for repairs once they pay you the car belongs to them, but you would have the option to buy it back cheaply.youd be surprised how much repairs mount up.i crashed mine requiring new wing, new valance, repaint bonnet and new grills and was quoted Ԛ£1200 8O i fixed it all myself for around Ԛ£200 as it was my fault winkeye
