For my second M50 project Clicky I want to keep the engine and exhaust as quite as possible, so i would like to put a standard air filter box in, instead of the K&N that i've got. Was down the breakers the other day and A e36 box is never going to fit as its to large to fit in the space I have, so just wondering if anyone else has done this and what they used? If not is there an aftermarket filter combo etc... thats not as loud as a K&N pipercross etc....
Thanks
Want a proper (quite) air box on my M50 what to use?

I've got the 535 one in mine with the steering resevoir in the standard position, although the feed to the pump is re routed.
Air meter fits completely inside the lid of the air box.

Heres a pic of mine

MAF inside, I had to grind the ribs of the inside of the lid and from around the MAF to stop it pushing on the filter element.
MAF needs to be as far back as possible really, as the lid of the box tapers

Don't forget that you can't use this air-box if you've got a rad with the expansion tank on the side.
I found out after I'd bought all the bits

Same reason im using the M20 rad, although if you look at the pics in the link to the german site you can see they are using the tanked rad.Sooty wrote:Don't forget that you can't use this air-box if you've got a rad with the expansion tank on the side.

Problem I had was the MAF pushing the filter element down because it was too far forward and the box was really close to the throttle linkage
