Not been having much luck with my car recently....

When I take the oil filler cap off when the engine is idling, the engine speed drops way down to stalling.... is this bad news?

thats normal because at the other end of the rocker cover is a breather which is piped to the throttle body.So when you take off the oil cap the air is sucked in by the engine.Engine is getting air it doesn't know about ( un metered) ,hence runs lean, hence lumpy idle !

normal 8)

No you have introduced an air leak so it will stall. As normal.
