318is Diff ratios

Lads,

I just took a look at the diff casing (for the first time 8O ) and it looks like it says AC427 on the left hand side. Am I seeing thigs thru the gunk or does this make sense? I think the 316 used to have a 4.27 diff but as far as I know, the 18iS didn't have it. Whassup??? And what's with the 'AC' bit ?

As an aside, I've noticed since I bought it that 1st gear is very low and 2nd is required rather sharpish. OK it hits 60 bloody quickly (roundabout the 9 second mark using my gps calibrated ass-meter) but can you guys shed any light as to what should be on the diff casing of a '91 318iS ??

4.1 ratio diff
most likely an open diff... not an lsd
