Ignition Coil from newer models in a e30?
Moderator: martauto
maybe i am just daydreaming but i love the look of those idividual igntion coil/plugs all in one jobbies that the newer bmws run - would any of them fit in an m20 engine? and would the good old megasquirt be able to cope with them?
MS can be used to run it's own coil packs - and it works very very well.

Sal is correct, i use 3 coil drivers to run a Bosch coilpack from a vectra/omega, monster strong sparks on those babies, reliable too Liam.
costs wise, the coilpack new is cheaper than a new dizzy cap and rotor
you'll need to add 2 more VB921z coil drivers to your MS though dude, open her up and make two coiples of the circuit you already have on D14.

most definately
you are removing pretty much all intake restrictions
so it has to be at least as good as a maf converrsion which pepole have spent more money on than a megasquirt set up.
once i get my brakes sorted i will be running in my n/a 2.7 and switching to megasquirt asap as i do 350 miles some weeks and ms csan reduce fuelling at cruising speeds - and of course for the few hourses it will give me
its great you dont really need a tame and a hard cardcore map (thoiugh i am sure you could) as it detects how you are driving from the tps which is variable instaed of just open and closed like the stock tps.
as for the ignition packs i new about the omega jobs allright and have heard great things - i was just being silly as i love the look of those square headed all in one plug coils sticking out of the engines in a row....

You already have MAF, you will see no gain at all as the MAF is not a restriction.miniblob wrote:Any gains to be had from running them on a n/a 2.7 if it was on MS???

On the m42 (which i would like to add already has individual coils) you can go one better and retrofit coilpacks. am42 hero in the states on the 42' forums (my name slips his mind) used some OEM coilapcks and some slight modifications to mountings or something and got rid of the HT leads completely. dont no if it will work on m2s like that tho. im sure tim will correct me when he reads this somehow
