I've just torqed don the head on my 320i, put it back together and turned it over.. its not starting.. there's no fuel pumping.. and there is no spark.. i put a direct live to the pump and it works.. the car has an imobiliser but it has not been touched since it ran before doing the head gasket..
bloody pissing me off
Possible reasons?
Cheers.

Well the fuel pump on mine wont actually run until the engine starts, when the pressure in the fuel rail drops with the ebgine running then the pump kicks in.There can be lots of causes for no spark as you know.An ignition system check from the coil etc is your next step.
If it ain't broke..
Fix it till it is

Normal E30 immobilisers just break the ignition feed to the coil.
Stick a 12V lamp from coil + to earth to check that you have power there.
Also check for power at both pins of a white 2 pin socket with 2 green wires above the glovebox.
Assuming you've put everything back together correctly, ( two connectors on the bracket under the diagnostic connector the right way around? Difficult to get them wrong, but it's been done!) then the usual cause of no fuel pump and no spark is the crank position sensor.
If the engine doesn't know the engine is turning, it won't turn on the fuel or provide sparks.

How well fitted is the immobiliser? can you just bypass it??
What circuits is the immobiliser connected to?

the immobiliser looks like its as basic as it can get.. i'll try fiddling with the crank sensor and see what i can get..

Makes a change from getting the fuel pipes the wrong way around!
How about the pipes to the heater, if you've had them off? One from the back of the head goes to the lower stub.
