Gear selector rod joint

How difficult is it to change this?? I've looked at the short shifter in the articles section and it states that it's a good 8 hours work . My car is currently in pieces for work I'm already doing inc fitting a B&M shifter but would like to know what is involved changing the above?? The shifting is a little sloppy for my liking and I want to cure it before fitting my new shifter. Cheers fellas

If you already have the car in pieces you might as well change it now.

There is a round pin that needs knocking out, a spring clip that holds the pin in and sits in a groove. Remove this clip and push the pin out (its not particularly tight) then just fit the new one.

The pain in the arse job is removing the clip that holds the alloy carrier for the gearstick, known as the b!tch clip for good reason

Bit of a long shot I know, but if you can get some metal bushes made up for the linkage, it transforms it to a lovely snickety snick action with practically no play.

I did this (made bronze bushes) and also filled the bottom link with lead and the shift feels pretty sweet (all in conjunction with my Volvo quick shift )

Change the oil seal where the selector rod comes out the gearbox while you've got all this apart. Just one of the many common oil leaks on an E30.

Yep I think I'll change it and the selector seal and as I'm there I might aswell change the output seal. Turbo I like the idea of a "snickety snick" shift and am going to look into the bush idea of yours.
