Having just spent the whole day dealing with FOI (Freedom of information) requests at work I decided to fire one of my own off.
I have asked DVLA how many e30 are still registered / taxed in the UK.
Have asked them to split it up by engine and body (ie 2/4door touring convertible)
They have 20 working days to reply.....
I'll post up any results when I get them.
If the figures are small its going to increase values.

Anyone can do a FOI request to any government department - as long as the department has the information and doesn't go against a few restrictions (i.e classified stuff defence.., and personal info) they have to give it to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
DVLA have a section and even a form to fill in at www.DVLA.gov.uk/foi
However make sure you word your request correctly, as people are trained to take the literal sense of what has been asked. Don't assume anything otherwise the will wiggle ou of it!
Oh its free for the time being but there is talk about a fee for requests, as it takes up sooo much time searching files / e-mails etc etc. However looks like this is only going to apply to Journalists / Companies as they take te piss!

it will be very interesting to hear the results but i am not sure about the FOI thing
In cumbria it was used to find out why a suspended official was still getting full pay 2 years later, important stuff as its costing us money.
But I cant help thinking this is gonna cost us money, if they HAVE to answer, just think of all the public money being wasted answering daft questions.
Unless its a labour ploy to get unemployment figures down, inventing jobs like president hoover did, (pigeon chaser etc) there will be a Department for pavements, a department for sleeping, a department for dogs with short legs if mr blair isnt thrown out soon!
Just think of all the people needed to do the job of finding the information

Gov dept don't get any more money for FOi requests... I think there have been about 16,000 job CUTS in the Civil Service since 2000!
Yea it has been used to good affect though in a number of cases. Eventually gov departments will just have all the info in their annual report available on their websites. So silly questions like "how much department money was spent on Christmas partys ?" will already be there i.e Ԛ£0! (in theory anyway...!)

This should be interesting...
I bet the DVLA don't even know what a E30 is.... last time i asked them for information they packed me off to the groups they SELL there databases too... but none of the groups could / would do what i asked (how many 318is are left) they all told me i had to speak with the DVLA for such info... so i tried again and they told me they could not sort the database by car type / description..
Round and round in circles comes to mind! You'll be a hero here if you get the info

At work, we bought some info off the DVLA a couple of years ago. IIRC, there were something like 14 E30m3s registered in Norfolk.
