lifted the carpet and there was a flood going on under it, no holes/rust in floor or cills thank god, the leak seems to becoming from up behind the glovebox on the far left handside, i cannot see any corrosion/holes in and around the fuse box area in the engine bay, there is a piece of rubber that sits at the back of the fuse box that has perished a little but no holes or rust behind it, ,is there any drain holes that could be blocked?
any ideas fellas, cheers spook

I had a similar problem on my iS. I found some rust around the fuse box gromet and fixed it and sealed around the gromet. 'Great' I thought, 'no more leaks'. However, the water continued to come in. There are some plastic gromets on the floor and I noted a small leak around the one that is towards the front. All of these were sealed and so far, so good. Major rain today and floor still seems dry. Not going to pat myself on the back until after a few weeks of rain though :)

If you pack under the carpet with kitchen roll, it will help soak up the water and should help identify where the water is coming in from. Howeverm you need to get the carpet dried first. If you keep replacing the wet kitchen roll with fresh stuff, it will eventually get the carpet underlay dried.

carpet out and remove glovebox, then feel right up behind the glovebox area up behind the dash for any holes or crumbling bits, could be rotting through under the fusebox or where the inner wheel arch area is

also look for the elephant's trunk, it's a rubber trunk like looking mo-fo which sits on the bulkhead over on the driver side, about level with the rocker cover , pull it out and check it ain't clogged, clean & replace

Remove the little plastic vent under the windscreen on the fuse box side. If you pour water into that I would put money on the water working it's way into the footwell. Thats the drain that runs out the elephants trunk beemerlad is on about.

I'm trying to sort that prob just now and thats where I've traced it.

Glove box out, carpet back, cover the footwell in talc powder and poor water into that vent thing. If water doesn't come through try the sun roof, under the fuse box etc etc.

Good luck and let me know how you sort it! :)

Hi as above plus take plastic grill off at n/s wiper I found a gromet down inside that I took a large fat head screwdriver to and pushed back into place.Everything fine and dry since then. :thumb:

if you have a hole under the fusebox and quite possibly in the inner arch then it's out with the welder time, probablt a bitch of a job to be honest as dashboard out etc and lots of electrics to move out of the way

you can see in this pic where the water had been dripping down from, had a hole I could almost get my fist through right up behind the glovebox area

water is seeping thru just at the back of the fusebox where a piece of rubber that goes along the bulkhead has perished, i can just slide a thin blade in the gap, i will fill this with some mastic, thanks for the pics above as i would never have found the elephants trunk which was fully caked with grime, i may be able to squeeze a mastic gun between the fuse box and the bulkhead, cheers fellas
