There's only one way to settle this argument ......FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Isle of Man: No National Speed Limit, No Gatso's, No Nanny State, a disused airfield track 1.5 miles long, the best mountain road to drive on...Come and Play!
Prof matt, have you still not taken this in:
I wouldn't bet your car on it put it that way.
This is what causes it. I think you are getting confused with how to deal with it once its occured. Front wheel drive you just wack the power on and it will pull you through(if you have aimed your car in the right direction) I think rear wheel drive you have to be a bit more subtle with it.agent006 wrote:So what you're saying is RWD cars are immune to the basic principals of weight transfer then??

I currently use a 350bhp mr2 turbo (rearwheel drive)for trackdays)+ study motorsport engineering and design, if you provoke the car into a drift and lift off the car will snap sideways even more aggreesively the same occurs during steady state cornering to initiate a drift, although midengined cars are worse for this. This in turn is down to weight transfer. So professor?matt it is possible.

Lift-off oversteer
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search
Lift-off oversteer (also known as trailing-throttle oversteer, lift-throttle oversteer, or drop-throttle oversteer) is a form of oversteer in an automobile that occurs when the vehicle's weight shifts from the rear to the front too quickly due to throttle release while cornering. Specifically, the reduction of weight on the rear tires decreases their surface area on the road surface.
This oversteer is often more pronounced in rear-engined cars with rearward centers of gravity such as older Porsche 911s, though technically any vehicle can experience lift-off oversteer. Various suspension enhancements, such as a Weissach axle or a multi-link suspension, can limit a vehicle's tendency to oversteer in this situation. Additionally, firmer suspension systems reduce the amount of nose-dive, hence maintaining a larger contact patch on the rear tires.
Anyway, any new ideas on the weight saving...What can i do with the sunroof...
I have complely striped the interior and dont really want to start cutting the strenth away from the body by drilling holes and cutting bits away...

I took all the mechanism out and have bonded the metal panel back in. Using temporary wood blocks to hold teh lanel up and used silicon sealant to make it all stick and be watertight. I've got a carbon panel waiting to replace it when i remove the runners.JoeE30 wrote: Anyway, any new ideas on the weight saving...What can i do with the sunroof...

Took a while, but that was a manufacturing delay. Really good to deal with and the panel is great.

Looks nice. However It is quite expensive and I have a lot more cost effective ways to lose weight before I would go for one of those.
Also has anyone replaced their electric window motors with the keep fit variety? Do they swap over or do I need new doors? As I have a 4 door I was thinking of changing the rear windows to plastic ones and removing the 4 motors and wiring.

True but it does come out cheaper than welding a metal panel and repainting the roof.nem wrote:Looks nice. However It is quite expensive and I have a lot more cost effective ways to lose weight before I would go for one of those.

I was lucky though, I got the manual mechanisms and handles at a scrappy. Fitted my glass to them and bolted them in - there are holes for both in the doors. I then found out that there is two types of glass and mechanisms - luckily mine matched! Not sure if it changes on a year or what? Just had to cut a small + shape in the door card for the winder handle soindle - easy to see where when you offer it up. I removed the wiring, central locking and it's wiring, but I couldn't be bothered to separate the electric mirror wires so ripped it out all together along with the wiring for it all under the carpet and in by the sills. While I was there I scraped the sound proofing off the inside of the door.

Looks like a neat job, nice.
It would be great if you could weigh up all of the sunroof parts as it would be good to know how much difference it makes. I am currentlyleaving mine as is untill I find out if it is really worth all the hassle.

A little progress on mine.
Now fully poly bushed, pretty well stripped, sun roof almost sorted. I previously ballsed it up by trying to remove the whole carrier assy
Next jobs, tidy up and fit cage. It looks like it's on stilts now with the weight out. Suspension arrives early Jan.
