It's not a job you're going to start and finish before lunch, but there are no hidden surprises, except there's nowhere to hang the clutch fluid resevoir.
You need to change the prop, and diff ratio is usually a little higher on autos, but not essential to change.

cheers guys, will have a search. i was thinking it might be the sort of job that would take an eternity to do. tho it would be whole lot easier to just buy a manual car in the first place and be done with it!

that is true! i like the silkyness of it and it suits me for driving home after work as the gearbox in my sprinter van is poo, but its not as instantaneous or responsive as a manual and thats what im missing!

i know what you mean, i have always had manuals but my e30 is an auto. Had it for nearly 6 months and love it now, really kicks out at around 3800-4200 rpm with the knock back between D & 3rd. And is silky smooth when taking things easy. But at first i felt a little like i was cheetin buying an auto but its kinda cool.

Downsides of the auto are that it has a whole gear missing over the manual, and the extra transmission losses = less MPH, less MPG.
