Might want to talk to Ant too, (long story short) my Tourer has a M50 and uses the original BMW brake servo and he's the guy who spotted it. And it's no good asking me about it, I didn't do the conversion, I just brought it of Ebay 'cos I fancied a Tourer!

I think this is possible if the angle of the engine tilt is altered.

Have you got any pics of this mate?

You might want to add them to the M50 developments thread

So has mine. I moved the whole servo/cylinder closer to the LH side of the bulkhead and used a longer pull rod.
Only possible with RHD cars of course.

I don't know if you want my modlist for the m50 engine since I've got a LHD car. If you do, let me know here.

I can get some pics, but I have no idea how this was done! Ant did some work on the car and he mentioned it.
I should see him in a few weeks time and I'll get him to explain it fully, either to me or onto the forum.

If I place the pics here and they're worth keeping, maybe a mod can put them into the correct thread?

i to am interesed in fitting an m50 i have spent days looking in to it and i can't find anything on wiring is this because its an easy job or just that no one wants to let on ? please help , the engine and loom i will probably use is from an e34 2.5 as i can get one real cheap, is there any avantage to using a non vanos engine / will this make it easyer . thanks matt

There have been pages and pages posted on here regards the wiring, which is fairly easy, especially if you use an E34 loom. Basically change the big E34 plug for an E30 one and find somewhere to park the ECU.
The only advantage of using a non vanos engine is that it will probably cheaper. For the advantage of using Vanos, just drive one, then you'll know!

Hi im on my 2nd M50 conversion now, on the first one i used the golf servo cause thats what i thought you had to use, but on my second one i used E36 alloy mounts and E34 rubbers and the engine dropped in with the standard E30 servo. It just touches the ribs on the inlet manifold. Can only post pics at the weekend if you want some as photobucket etc is banned at my work :(

Depends on what E30 you start with, whether the engine comes from an E34/E39/E36 etc, what gearbox you use, what exhaust you want to use and so on
There is no definitive summary

There's no one solution except for E36 alloy engine mount arms and E34 sump and oil pick up.
Use the forum search function, or trawl through the "engine swaps/forced induction" forum.
All you need to know is there, several times over.

Diff - 4th on a M20 box = 5th on an E36 box.
The whole of the exhaust system.

If you are going to be searching for an E36 box then find one with the smaller output flange, that way you can use an E30 320 prop and save having to buy an M3 one.

Not sure of the 318 gear linkage, but I 'know' that a 325 one works

what would the diff from a 525e do to the final drive ?

ratio of 2.93 iirc ?

525e diff is what I've used.
The equivalence factor is 0-81.
2.93 will be the equivalent of 2.93/0.81 = 3.62 with the original E30 box.

with a bit of work could the 2.93 e28 diff be re-built into lsd form ??
