Sorry, your pictures not displaying properly ?

The wear sensor plug is a round two pin plug if that helps ?

Looks like someone beat you to it and crimped the little fella off. Took mine out altogether, It will probably be the same story on the near side front too. Shouldn't worry about loosing the brake pad warning though, metal on metal usually lets you know

Looks like you've been bleeding the brakes 8O

If not, I should take the bus to work tomorrow morning :teehee:

This is the sort of thing that would put me off buying a car.
If the P.O. can't be bothered to fit a new sensor, what else has he skimped on? Air filter just blown out with an airline? Oil filter washed out with petrol? Chinese cardboard brake pads?

Nah the car has always been well maintained, or at least since 1991, it has been serviced and maintained by a local mechanic who has lloked after it for the last 15 years so he usually spots the problems.

I hope :?

And, in fifteen years, he hasn't noticed this bodge up?

He probably bodged it. The car has only ever been a comuter with good quality pads, which have been changed reguarly so i guess he thought there was no need for the sensor.

Would it be easy to put a new sensor on it though? As i intend to do most of the servicing from now on. And i want this car upto 100% original functionality.

New sensor is about Ԛ£3, and simply clips onto the pad before you fit it. The wires have to be carefully routed to avoid rubbing on the inside of the wheel rim when you refit it. They go inside the loop formed by the retainer for the rubber cap on the bleed nipple, and there should be a clip on one of the bungs for the caliper sliders.

if that is a well maintained example then i would not want to see a poorly maintained, rusty example with death trap tyres

they appear from the picture to be extreamly worn! no offense intended!! :D as for the rust nothing that an afternoon with a wire brush and some paint would not solve (under seal type ), the calipers can also be removed and cleaned up and painted with heat proof enamel paint, while you are there check the pads, and calipers etc. all simple stuff!

if any advice needed post a thread on cleaing up the trailing arms etc...

the pad wear sensor is only on (your RHD) drivers side on the rear and passenger side on the front.

Chinese cardboard brake pads?
I have a chinese cardboard car with chinese cardboard brakepads. Nothing wrong with that. Ok, so I can only go out on dry days, but the power to weight ratio is awesome :teehee:

As, Brian said, the clip is already on the back of the bung on yours so just buy a new sensor and copy what you've got there. When you look at the new pad you'll see an indent in the outside edge of the pad for the sensor to clip into. It will be self apparent when you open up the box.
If you want to be thorough then look at the front nearside sensor as this will likely be the same if it is the same garage that's been looking after it.

Did you get the brakes bled ok?

Aha, i new the tyres were worn (MOT - New wheels and tyres on the way) i thought you had spotted something else.

When i had the calipers off i wondered what those notchess were for.

As soon as i have got her throught the MOT i am going for a slow but sure strip and repaint/underseal of nearly all components.

I havent bled the brakes yet, i'm waiting for a flareing tool before i get it all apart, i was just testing all the fasteners and nuts to make sure nothing had siezed and i dribbled abit :o:

no worries, dont want you slipping off a wet road and wrecking another E30

if your MOT not due right now why not get these jobs done before you take it in, better to pass then fail surely!! And once your wet horrible creul winter weather comes along you will be less inclined to climb under your car with a wire brush and a tin of underseal :x

True enough, but i want to get her on the road, i'm faily happy working in the cold anyway. We need more E30's on the road, not locked up in garages waiting for MOTs  winkeye
