I'm new to the e30 scene so was wondering if someone could help me.

I have the numbers 3.54 1352 on the tag and the numbers 1210433 on the backplate under the tag. Can anyone give me more info? I'm confused as the only diff that realoem.com tells me I should have for my month and year of manufacture is an LSD but my tag doesn't have an 'S' on it that I can see.

I can stick up a pic of the printout I have from BMW from the reg plate if that helps but is it safe with all the vehicles identifying numbers on it?

Lol thats exactly how I tested mine Cliffy, See my thread in the pub section for the video.

If you jack the car up so both rear wheels are off the ground, turn one of the wheels and watch the other, does it rotate in the same direction?

thats a 3.54:1 non-slip diff, if it read S3.54 1352 it would be an LSD. what is the car? is it an M3 as in your sig or something else, cause if it is yours it a yank version (or at least yank bumpers) and not sure if they had LSD's, oh yeah to clarify d6dph's explaination, if you jack up the rear wheels and turn one a normal diff will allow the opposite wheel to turn in the opposite direction of the wheel you are turning, a LSD will have both wheels turnig in the same direction.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I don't really want to do the burnout test as I'm worried I'll wreck something. Will jack the car up and check the wheel rotation though.

mrLEE30, that isn't my car in the sig, just one I pulled from somewhere. Mine is a 325i, pics in here: Link

It's not a tech1, just a 325i with the kit I think. I was told when I got it from my grandad it had been built to the sport spec except the interior but now I'm not so sure. What I really need is an expert to look at it for me or tell me what I need to look for to determine what it is exactly. I've looked at the spec list in the articles section and I'm none the wiser lol.

I work Wednesday nights so won't be able to make the next one. Also got a small fuel leak that needs sorting before I do any long distance driving. After that though I'll get some time off and come up.

Ok I tested the diff by jacking the back up and when I turn one wheel the other wheel doesnt move at all :?

Or does it need to be in gear and I'm just being thick?
