rocker arms snapping

i have got a 89 e30 2.0i straight six the rockers arm snapped so took head off changed the rocker arm but when started back up misfiring but wasnt sure wether timing was out or not so took cover off and the same rocker that snapped before went again. now i am thinking to swap engine what sort of engine can i look for not a clue what to do now love the car but it is really doing my head in now

please somebody help me please

Sounds like the gap was too large between the rocker arm and the tappet. If it is, the sudden shock of hitting the top of the tappet COULD cause this to happen.

When you replaced the arm, did you reset the gap???

Sounds like the valve with the snapped rocker is bent to me.

Yep I'm with the bent valve suggestion.... did you check the valve moved freely in the guide and spin it to check it was straight? If it is bent, it would explain the possibility of it getting stuck in the guide and snapping the rocker, also it wouldn't be seating properly hence a mis-fire.

all the valve clearences were checked but some one did say to me about the clearence of the valves what do you think though new engine or try and fix old one
