get the dash out and just start unpluging bits until you can unplug no more
There is NO nucleus.

They do but you have to change the oil first and then you have to find someone who is willing to recharge the system using 134 gas on the old r12 couplings or its Ԛ£170 for new pipes from BM
and try not to drop the compressor because the clutch on the front costs the wrong side of Ԛ£300 as well

I am a air conditioning engineer but do not work on many cars due to people not wanting to pay for the time to do the job properly.last year i retro fitted a old rolls royce air con system.
drain out r12 compressor oil and refill with r134a compatible oil.
buy r134a expansion valve or capillary which ever the bmw has.
buy a new filter dryer.
the r12 rubber o rings should be changed for r134a ones but a lot of people say dont bother.I would buy a box set i have seen on ebay.
pipe up all of system exept compressor and blow through with oxygen free nitrogen . connect pipes pressure test ,vac system and then recharge.
any questions please ask

BMW sell conversion fittings that screw on the top of the r12 fittings to convert them to r134a fittings. They also sell a complete r134a retrofit kit that has all the parts you will require to do the conversion (except the compressor - some E30 compressors are compatible with r134a).Martinaston wrote:then you have to find someone who is willing to recharge the system using 134 gas on the old r12 couplings or its Ԛ£170 for new pipes from BM![]()

you can buy the fittings that screw on the r12 and change it to the r134a fittings. but what is the point any good engineer will have manifold gauges that will screw on either and just put a sticker on it saying gas type and amount.
