Just want to make absolutely sure before I go and c**k things up, am I right in suggesting that Zinnober red is a 'flat' colour, not clear-coated, therefore I should be looking to purchase Zaino Z3, as opposed to Zaino Z2 ?

Is it just a waste of time and physical exertion using the incorrect product, or is it damaging?

Thanks in advance. Keen to hear what other Zinnober owners are using.

you need z3 or z5 pro

and with either you must use either the zfx accelerator or z1

z5 pro is newest sealant and its incredible

Thanks Jon, that's just the quick answer I was after.

The detailing forum is one that I don't usually visit, but some of the pics around here are stunning, so it has got me motivated.

you need to remove the autoglym and then you could choose to use zaino

prep is the key to top class finish

once you have removed all imperfections zaino will give a finish like no other and will outlast anything on the market

washing up liquid normally does a pretty good job of stripping it off, make sure its a nice strong soloution to get rid of it all

prep is up to you

if you want flawless finish then you need to inspect panels one by one and assess for swirl marks, mico marring, spider webs etc

these need to be removed if you want it as perfect as possible

as its fresh paint as long as b/shop has done a good job post paint then you should have minimum work

any defects need to be removed with swirl remover products etc as zaino, except for zpc ,is non abrasive so it will only enhance the finish u already have

i wood wash car with strong solution of fairy liquid first to remove anything that may be on paint

then dry car off and apply zaino

To strip the car of all old products/waxes you say to use washing up liquid. I've bought some clay to have a play with, do this process sound right?:

wash with fairy liquid
dry
clay
wash again with fairy liquid
dry
apply meguiars gold class wax
...

then what?

thanks for you advice Jon... oh polishing god! LOL

that sounds spot on, Andrew

clay will strip wax off too as well as fairy liquid, but doing both is great, and washing after using the clay is important too

then use whatever wax/polishing system you perfer, be it zaino/meguiers/zymol etc

fairy liquid is such a nasty thing to use. i know its easy to get hold of but surely the zone has valeters on here who can recommend something else for fuck sake! how about tfr or something. fairy will not help at all if u got panels which want to start corroding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the thread hijack but I had my Lexus 'profesionally' valeted last week and the guy told me he would get rid of my swirl marks for me, the stupid soft cnut has only done more damage with his Ԛ£2.99 buffer than I had on there in the first place !! So my question is am I best ot use the zaino swirl remover stuff and do you really have to a 2 inch square piece at a time ?? Please note the size of a GS300 and laugh in advance !

it contains alot of salt i know, however, it is very good at removing old layers of wax

and so long as its only used once to remove old wax, and then rinsed very thourouhly then its ok to use

agreed

the use of fairy liquid is to remove old products that are on the paint surface

you cannot expect any product to work to its best when you are asking it to bond to anything but itself or clean paint

i personally woul only use the fairy once and then after the clay id wash with what ever range of products you are using tho its best to use the shampoo that relates to your top coat or again you are asking top coat to attatch to unknown products

its hard graft im afraid

people that can use a rotary mop properly are few and far between

or purchase a porter cable dual action which spins off centre etc and you will do it yourself a lot lot lot quicker and to a standard you will never replicate by hand

What you want is a mop with a bit of G3 on it. One pannel at a time (gentle or the pannel edges)....

That will get rid of all the swirl markes. It will make a mess, so afterwards re-wash the car and polish with some autoglym, etc. Soft compound polish (not in circular motions, follow the lines of the car)....

Then buff to a HIGH SHINE! :D

Everyone STOP! PUT THE BOTTLE OF FAIRY WASHING UP LIQUID DOWN!!!

Fairy is the worst thing you can use, espesially on your e30. It removes every layer of polish/paint protection!

I've just got a one owner from new facelift e30 in, to brake (as that is all it's good for) 105k and always been washed in FAIRY! The old guy, had just bought a brand new Jag, he said "it's alright this one has paint protection on it"! I explaned about fairy and its effect on bodywork. He was amaised and wish I told him back in 1990. Maybe he would have go more than Ԛ£40 for his pride and joy!!!

Get yourself some cheap TESCOs, etc car wash. Suds up lovely. Really nice to use and wont make your e30 rot out.

I'm a veleter and I use trade suppliers for my chemicals, but the best high street car wash (stuff autoglym) it's TESCOs, etc. Bargain! :D

thats why were telling him to use it

to get the best possible results you need to strip every layer of wax and protection off the paint for him to be able to remove the swirls etc, then he can start building up his layers of wax as protection

after this he should not use it i agree totally, he should use proper car shampoo, preferable by the same manufacturer as his wax is, like jon said above, as it stands less chance of stripping the wax off

fairy doesn't just take off the polish from the paintwork, it goes behind the panels and starts working its evil there and before you know it ur bodywork has rotted where you can't see it

please...........

one wash in fairy will not damage your panels..........period

there are shampoos on the market with far vgreater harmful contents than fairy and people use these week in week out

all it will do is remove the previous products that you dont want on the paint surface if you are applying a new system

reading the thread you will see that it was in reference to applying zaino to paint for the first time

zaino will work to its utmost ability when on clean paint or itself
