on average i'm getting about double that to a tank. try the pies near the fule filter had to change mine when i first got the car cos they were split most of the way down. you may also have a leaky tank worth taking it to a garage to get it checked. if you need a new tank this is defo the best place speak to spadge he'll be your best bet for the parts.
hope this helps mate
ps i kick the sh1t out of my car aswell so could get more.

Mileage return like that on an M40, if there is no specific leak anywhere, is generally down to lack of regular servicing.
How long have you had the car and do you know when it last had a correct service?
You will be surprised what a difference new plugs, filters etc. can make.

Needs a full service - mine was doing 180 to a tank when I got it. The difference is amazing with a bit of maintenance - get 360 miles on a tank now (unless it's just that my speedo's broken lol). And that's on an M20. M42 should be much better than that
Well my '91 4 door 316i which has got 133k on the clock and has been treated pretty badly by previous owners is giving me 370 miles to the tank every week. Mine is also running rich.
Have you checked things like the o2 sensor?

4 seats is 2 too many.

My work slag 91 316i does about 140miles to 20ltrs, so about 30odd mpg's. Thats @ 70/80mph & 90% on the A14.
My hates are:
Idles too low
Cut outs on slow parking moves
PAS rack leaks
Half dash is dark, speedo ( fixed the dials etc )
My old mk3 1.3L escort gave 200miles to 20ltrs so the e30 has a lot too improve
