Hey not sure if this is the right place but...
I have found a 535i manual to use as my doner car for a possible engine conversion but it has an oil leak. its at the front and looks like its coming from the sum/block join. as the engine is coming out i will change it but could this be something else to worry about.
I cant see exactly where its coming from.
Thanks in advance

M30 engine oil leak

Remove the crankshaft pulley and vibration damper, Prise the old seal out of the cover, Clean it up, coat the new seal in engine oil or grease, then using a socket or bit of pipe with an outside diameter of the seal drive the new seal into place and then replace the damper and pulley.is it a easy fix?

it might be worth pulling the sump for a cleanout and checkover anyway so the sump gasket and both crank seals could be done then. afaik there isn't anything else further up on a M30 that can leak oil other than the head gasket. this would be obvious though.

Beware if you are removing the crank pulley nut - it is VERY tight!
