further to my last post about no oil pressure!

when i took the oil filter housing off the block and cranked the engine (then idled it to make sure), absolutely no oil even gets to where the filter goes, so it seems the pump suffered a major failure rather than wearing out.
no swarf at all in the filter so i think maybe the pump failure was sudden rather than gradual, and unrelated to the previous running issues i.e. it's not been running with low pressure.

hence the motor might actually be fine :rasta:

so i thought, bang a new oil pump on it and see what happens, GSF list it for Ԛ£47.

but i rang em today and they say the can't get them, at all. so do i really have to go to a dealer where it's more like Ԛ£200-300?

the bloody engine only cost Ԛ£100!

cheers ant.

don't mind paying through the nose if i have to, it just seems that it's an obvious part to replace during a rebuild and i thought the pattern suppliers might sell em.

hopefully the chain broke, the chain is cheap!!

Bloody hell!

I got an oil pump for my 325i from the dealers last week (as no-one else seems to be able to get them) it was about Ԛ£90 inc VAT which I didn't think was too bad.

Have you had the old one apart to see what went wrong?

Wouldn't just be a broken spring in the pressure releif valve would it?

thanks for the replies.

euro do what they call a 'genuine' part only, for a little under Ԛ£200+ vat.

i haven't had the sump off yet, i haven't looked into how big a job it will be in the e30, i think maybe the easiest thing is to drop the front subframe (i don't think the engine will hoist high enough with the transmission still attached!!)

i don't know how oil pumps usually fail, but the only cheap bit to replace is if the chain has somehow broken, can't really see how that could have happened though!
