Stripped the throttle body off with associated pipe work.

I found a worrying amount of water in the pipe between the TB and the AFM?
The little ally elbow came out of the TB without much effort - should it be fixed?

There is emulsion in the oil vapour return pipe that goes from the rocker to the TB, none on the oil filler cap

The black cylinder shaped but that has a 3 pin plug - the internals move but there was some black oil in there - can this be cleaned out and oiled?

What's the deal with the water feed that runs to the TB - cant see a point to it :(

There is a black connector plug on the loom that connects to the TB that's not connected to owt - surplus to requirements?

The car had stood for a few weeks now, but that amount of water cant be right can it - and could it be the cause of the vapour even when the engine is warm?

Errrrrm thing that's it, is there anything else i need to check over whilst its all apart?

Any help is mucho appreciated :D

It should be removable, but it shouldnt come out so easy. suggest MAYBE a tiny squidge of instant gasket seal to hold it. Dont go mad tho, or you'll have an orange engine bay!

Get the pipe out from under the inlet manifold, get it in some hot soapy water and clean the bugger out good and proper! When you have done that, get the rocker cover off and clean the rocker cover ouf with Gunk engine degreaser. You will find that in the roof of the rocker cover is a maze for the air to escape from. Over the years, this gets blocked up with oil/water/gasses and it forms the notorious mayonaise type emusified oil that we all dread. Dont fret! Clean the rocker cover out EXTREEMELY WELL! This is important. When its all clean, clean the head out and change the oil. Check the oil for the mayo to make sure the head gasket isnt shot too. If there is no mayo in the oil u take from the sump, then wicked, its just the blocked pipe/maze in the rocker cover. If youve got mayo in the oil, then i'd investigate further. From what it sounds tho, its just the pipe/maze system. I had this on my grey 325 a while ago. wasnt a problem tho.

Im guessing that its supposed to cool the gasses down that come from the head, as they get fed back into the inlet manifold via the TB dont they. Thats my best assumption of it anyway.

Renew any fuel pipes that look a bit parched mate. It may seem trivial, but u dont want your ride going up in a supernova do u? For a few quid, its worth it. The fuel pipes are easier to get at when the tb is off, as u can get ur hands down deeper into the engine bay below the fuse box.

HTH u a bit.

Well, "oilman" is probably the guy to ask for a technical answer, but i use 15-40 semi-synthetic. Everyone has their own favourite brand depending on their driving style, so i wont name brands, but 15-40 is my choice on a car over 100k. :D

The water elbow you mention around the rocker breather outlet is a heater to help prevent what would be venturi icing (sounds like something for an Italian cake) not really useful in the UK but somewhere like Germany or a high altitude (or both) they come in very handy.

Basically stops droplets of condensation forming on the inside of the throttle body and then turning to ice.

As you can imagine ice flowing into an engine isn't good, it wont damage the motor but it can make it cut out.
