hello / engine swap

hello to all . i have been a member for a bit but havn't posted any messages yet so here goes . i have too 318is s one is a turd and one not i would like to put the m42 from one in to my girlfiends e36 316 does anyone know if the m42 will mount on to the m40 1.6 gearbox ? using the m42 box is not an option as it will be going to my good e30 as i wrecked second gear in it going sideways

I think it will the 318is is a m40 block with a diffrent head

Do they look the same ?

Just use the M42 gearbox and buy another one off me for yours

yes they look alike but both engines are still in place at the moment as i am running around in the turd to make sure the engine is sweet . and thanks for the offer of the box chap i will bear it in mind but i like the idea of using yhe 1.6 running gear . the may be an option as i am in the torbay area too
