as the heading says...

anyone had any experience of these windmills?

thinking of one but not sure if i would jus be better off getting a cozzy job instead

on a tight(ish) budget so a s/h cozz might be an option

another question:anyone used a saab turbo?from what i read they aint far off a cozz....only reason i ask is i know a bloke who`s scrappin one with a turb thats not done a lot of miles that i can get pretty cheap :D

i need it to be reliable but quick :)

i aint worried about top end power,to an extent

i`d like it pretty quick spoolin but strong up the range

i will be usin a flipped standard mani so as Ant has said space restrictions will be the playin fact for future upgrades so i think a coz t3 would be best

as i said in another post,i jus need enough power to kiss goodbye to my mates 150horse G40

I've got a T25 Hybrid, can't remember the exact specs, on my M20 engined E21 323i and she pulls hard from 1700 rpm all the way up tp redline of 6,500. Max PSi is only about 10 - 12, but it's enough for me and is very rapid off the lights.

Toby Unna is using a XS POWER turbo IIRC on his 335i, he's happy with as far as I know.

Whatever you get make sure the exhaust housing is big enough to flow what you need as back pressure will aid detonation and that's never a good thing.

not wishing to rain on your parade dude, but if the turbo fails, its almost defo gonna take your engine with it !, still fancy the cheap units ?

How exactly does it take the engine if the turbo fails?

leaking oil?

compressor wheels shredding into intake, knackerd bores etc.
you do get what you pay for-inferior parts usually are cheaper.

compressor shatters= crap into intake and ruined piston/head/bores, then contamination of oil and or starvation.

Turbine failure ( poor materials !! ) same as above, normally instant engine death ( turbo fails, you lift, debris dragged into the exhaust ports and bam, fubar)

Not saying they are all bad, but a T3/T4 hybrid for Ԛ£200 brand new, I dont think so dudes.

As always, the above is only my opinion , take it or leave it :D

look at ssautochrome feedback on ebay it is about 36000 .i will take the risk with the turbo.i know of big hp skylines running these turbos .you can get a injector or fuel pump fail and will melt your engine too.i would not spend Ԛ£10 grand on a engine when it can go bang just the same as if you were to spend 5 grand.

Problem with Ebay is, you never know what you've bought til it arrives, and then as long as its turbo shaped and shiny , posistive feedback will be left.

as I said, I'm not dissing for the sake of it, check on e30tech.com for horrors relating to cheap turbos, SSA or XSP or otherwise.

as i said in the original post, this will be a budget build

ive been offered a rebuilt cozzy turbo for a reasonable price so i think i`d rather have that

i had doubts about the ebay ones anyhow after some research on other forums:not lasting when boosted up etc.

sorry off topic a little but Ant,.is the ms kit just ready to splice into the original loom?

no worries on the O/T dude, happens all the time

you can splice the MS harness into the original yes M8, if you use an M50 TPS there are no extra wires needed, the only thing to do is solder the IAT sensor pigtial into the existing IAT feed @ the AFM plug, job jobbed.

So does MS trigger the injectors in groups of 1-3 and 4-6 then?

Interesting that some people go on and on about the importance of sequential injection when in actual fact it doesn't seem to make any practical difference if the injection is 120degrees out of phase!

you can go alternating or simulatanious(sp ? ) for the injectors, and specify the min/max opening time, pulsewidth bracket, duty cycle and how many squirts per cycle

there are limits of course, but you can cheat the system slightly

Mr Unna, I am Impressed dude :thumb: you fitted that Fuel Pressure Reg yet M8 ??

should see 10psi on those 30# @ 3.5 Bar  ^380 hp  you altered the map at all Toby ? could still possibly take a few more degrees timing in the midrange, going to invest in an EGT setup soon as funds allow

Will be interesting to know what peoples EGTs are, I'm waiting on a group buy on another forum for a VEMS WBO2 and EGT combined gauge and sensors, did post about it here a while ago but had no takers :(

Not touched the map or the fp yet Ant. no bloody time tbh, it was struggle enough finding half a day to nail it all back together for sunday, and i'll no doubt have to have it apart again soon to do more pictures of my sh*te welding for the mag :(

it will happen, although 325 odd rwhp will do for now.

on topic (as I'm in a position to comment)... i have an XS power T04E on my car, bought very cheap from someone who'd already imported it then changed plans. it seems spot on at the (low) pressure i'm currently running, no vibration or balance issues etc. HOWEVER - this is on an engine that, while sweet, cost me a hundred quid. if the turbo blows up and smashes the engine, i'll get another. if i'd spent money on a proper build i'd think carefully before strapping a massive Ԛ£150 turbo to it :D

Alex, mail me the detail please dude, I need the EGT thermocouple and display only, I have the LM-1 and LSU4 already

Cheers M8

a cheat I used on mine is that thermal tape from CBS, permenantly records the max temp achieved, OK its external to the gassflow but given a safe margin does aid with setting up.
