As title really:( I was heading to get some petrol, slowed down, wham...someone in a punto went in to the back of me at 40mph, fucking my neck up in the process and writing off my car. I will get some pictures up later. I was going to put Mtech 2 on it this week, after having just paid out for it to be painted.

Your brother told me about this a couple of hours ago.....gutted for you mate.
I'm really sorry!! Very clean car, he said you'd been giving a proper polish too.
Hope you get paid out decently, make sure you get examples of cars going for loads of money and explain how rare the car is, and it's condition.
Shame mate.....what's the plan now?

sorry to hear this mate.....i was involved in a similar situation a few weeks ago (in someone elses car i might add, i was a passenger) he indicated, slowed down smoothly and in no hurry and someone who wasn't looking just braked too late and went into the back of us. don't worry mate, at least you're ok (other than a stiff neck)...it could have been worse...hope the insurance company isn't a total pain in the arse as we all know they can be.
let us know how you get on.

I've had so many people drive into my cars over the years, last time the tw@t was doing 80mph, i was doing about 30... feck that hurt!
Make sure you get your neck/back looked at properly, i'm being serious here, it took me 9 months to sort my back out after the last idiot who hit me

Shame about the car mate, but make sure you go to the doc's with neck, shoulder and back pain within a week. About 2 months ago I hit the rear of a Metro in heavy rain. Car was stopping OK till I hit standing water and nudged the Metro at about 10mph. Score - 316i cracked no. plate :-: Metro - bumper, both rear light clusters, lower valance and tailgate! Driver and 2 passengers now claiming thru ins. for injuries as above even though they all declared no injuries to police and refused medical attention. Get your claim in and start window shopping for your dream car!!!!!

Unberlievable!
what a car that was aswell! a great example of how an e30 can be made to look just as modern as the next car!
i bet the insurance company didnt take a second glance at writing it off either!
this insurance lark with e30's is an absolute joke!! the book price is Ԛ£350 for an e30 in good condition! anything anywhere near that and they will call it a write off!
id give my arm and a leg for a car like that!

Make sure you get the book price from the Glass's guide for car values & modern classics. It recognises the iS for what it's worth... i don't have a upto date copy, but the march 2003 book i have lists a '91 318iS retail @ Ԛ£2430, and a '91 2 door 318i @ Ԛ£1160 just a slight difference...

Mate i think thats the only way my bro can get the money back (Thats if they deffinatly say its a right off), because otherwise they will just have his pants down and give him like 800 quid.
Is this book still available your on about? What other sort of things can be done to show this cars value.Like stuff to do with the zone...

Start to gather adverts for other 318iS, try to prove it's worth as much as you say.
I'm seriously going to get mine valued now, so God help me if any thing happens i've got some back up...
The Glass's guides are trade only books, you need to speak to a friendly trader, especially one who deals in older cars. The Modern Classics book is seperate to the run of the mill Glass's Car value book.

Oh right.
I think we may take all of the bits we can get away with off incase the care is a right off and we dont buy it back (but if its cheap then it will be worth it as the rest of the motor is absolutly mint, the lump alone is a few bob). We were thinking of replacing my mint condition standard interior with my brothers recaros, i doubt they would noticed if it had to get taken away, and the is lip, boot spoiler, replace the steering wheel with my old 4 spoke standard one. That way we can get as much money off the car without making it look much differnt from standard, oh and put my bottlecaps back on there.

So sorry to hear what happened, before i came to back tomy e30,i had a 406 as my daily driver,i had done 276000 miles in it,when a silly woman pulled out of a pub car park straight into the side of it,the repair bill came to Ԛ£2900 so it got written off.
And she tried to make an injuries claim against me,but the police told her where to go as i had several witnesses.
I must say directline dealt with it pretty quickly, seriously though i would go and see a specialist chiropractor to be assessed as damage doesnt always show up straight away.
Hope things improve and the punto driver gets marauding crabs or something!

Gutted, i loved the look of that car
. Like everyone has said before get as much evidence to prove the value of your car, definately do something about the neck that way if they do fcuk you over on the car you should get plenty on an injury claim. Try and buy the car back and put everything on your bro's car inc the engine
Mark how do you go about getting a valuation of your car, i'm now considering this once mines fixed up.

OK, i've just spoken to the BMW Car Club who offer a valuation scheme, costs Ԛ£15.Kedge wrote:Mark how do you go about getting a valuation of your car, i'm now considering this once mines fixed up.
You need to send seven photos, one of each corner of the car, one under bonnet, one rear seat and the final of the front seats / dash area. Be a good idea to include one of the boot area too Plus you need to send a summary of the work done, service history etc. Plus indicate what you think the car is worth and how you arrived at that figure.
The photo's and info are then sent of and a value is obtained from an independent 3rd party.
Forgot to ask if this was available to non-BMWCC members... give them a ring on 01225 709009 or email bmwcarclub@btinternet.com

Cool, worth sending as many pics as possible then i reckon, i'm planning on joining the BMWCC anyway just not got round to writing the cheque(who do i make this payable to BMWCC?).
Would you include car stereo into that, and i assume the lack of serviec history mine has would detract quite badly even though it has obviously been looked after?

thats some very useful information. I have access to Cap and Glassses guide but they're like gold dust. Will do quote from them as required if you like!!E30Mark wrote:Make sure you get the book price from the Glass's guide for car values & modern classics.
