Well....

My car was using some coolant, but there were no other signs of head gasket problems...

After last night at the Ace Cafe  I think I helped it on it's way to being properly broken!!

It's using quite a bit of coolant, and today I opened up the oil filler cap and there's quite a bit of Mayo there.

Oh well!

I'm gonna keep using it, or the Mazda (need to MoT it!) and hopefully put in a 3.5 engine come summer time.

sh!t dude, sorry to hear that!

can you not just slot the 2.0 back in? not wanting it to break down mid-drift!

keep focused on the 3.5

It's ok!

Bit of a shame, but I was planning on changing it already pretty much as soon as I put it in!

Can't go back to 2.0 now!

I'll use the sexy Mazda instead if need be.

i'll keep my eye out for cheap 3.5's up this way (us scots seem to grudge payin as much for our cars as you lot) cna even deliver it (assuming my touring isn't dead LOL!)

I don't wanna stick the 2.0 back in now :? :)

I'll hold out and use the Mazda or Bmw (keep topping up the wasser)...

3.5 in Summer I hope....

I'm not sure about that to be honest, the 320 head has snapped studs anyway.

I'll just leave it for now I think, and smoke about in it.

I really don't know what to do, because I can only insure one car, and if I insure the Mazda I can't be insured on the BMW aswell.

Gotta have a think about it.

guys, have a missed something here?
at worst, its has blown the head gasket on a couple of 6cylinders...

and headgasket changes are not that hard, and if you sort it now, its unlikey that the head is warped...even if it is, its not much to get it skimmed.....get a new hg set, wack it on, get some new headbolts and intake hose LOL......and you will be laughing....

what have i missed?

M3RAGS-probably dave doesnt want to go to the expense of doing a head gasket on the 2.5 cos he's only gonna keep it for a few months

cash is prob best spent on the 3.5 IMO

I'm sure he'll say what he's thinking

This is pretty much true, I have to spend about one hundred pounds on a new head, another hundred on pressure test/skim, yet more on service items etc.

It'd add up to quite a bit.

If it were just the gasket then it wouldn't be so bad, but as 320_Touring said, I wanna go 3.5, so I see it as dead money.

Although, I have just heard of another 2.5 going cheap, so I will hopefully slot that in!

The engine was in the breaker touring I bought, I wasn't guaranteed that it was sweet, and it turned out it wasn't so, it's just one of those things.

I did the engine change with lots of help, Karan and my mate Si did most of the work on the day, with help from Demlotcrew and Jhonno, because my arm was fu*ked due to the incident with the bouncers.

Thing is, for the price of changing the gasket and all that, you can get a new 2.5 engine for less!

I'm 95.3% sure it's the head gasket (or cracked/porous head) because of the symptoms. The caning at the Ace Cafe meet did it no favours whatsoever, but it was great fun.

Roll on another engine! Roll on Summer for the 3.5 engine! :D

Blown engines seem to be a way of life for me at the moment.. 2 and counting last year for me! The 2005 race engine is on a stand being built at the moment, but all credit to the bog standard 80k 325 lump that lasted a full day of thrashing till the final 30 mins at Rockingham! lol If you need any help/advice on an engine re-build mate, gimme a shout!

I had to laugh when my 9 year old nephew asked if he could come to one of the first races in the year incase I blow up another!! lol

Thanks for that, I may call upon that advice in the future :) .....I'm uncertain what to do at present.

I could use the Mazda, but the MoT has run out, and the Tax, and I don't know when I'm gonna have time to sort it. I'm trying to do this on a 'budget', and I don't wanna spend out loads on this/these 2.5 engines when I want to put in a 3.5 in a few months anyway....

I'll keep you informed anyway!

Mark, I'll hopefully sort something out soon, don't wanna miss Lakeside!

ah a cracked cylinder head , what a pain in the arse!

pity it wasn't a coolant leak......

It might explain its weird running as well, not just down to the AFM and the pipe....

I still think the running is down to the pipe, despite the head being f***ed.

When the pipe was taped up later on, it was sweet until it split again.

I ordered the pipe from BMW today, so I'll chuck it on Thursday!

Really wanna get it sorted!

as i said earlier to u dave.... just keep topping the slag up and dont waste money on it.,,,, save it for the 3.5... unfortunately ive had no luck with one place so fra regarding the mounts as they are 8mm sheet steel, they are gonna cost Ԛ£200!!!!!!!!! i said FECK OFF to them and will try some more places.. keep ure eyes peeled for a e34 lump, ask toby where he finds em as he seems to get thru em quick enough

unlucky 2 weeks before lakeside... get a lift with nick or something or if u can get near my area ill pick u up-prob takin neil anyway....

was worth killing it in the way u did though thats for sure..... thats why i wasnt going OTT not wantiing to kill my 2.7--or i really would have been     i almopst shat myself after u had gone... when i heard funny noises coming from my head area-but it was just the electric fan making funny noises.... thank god for that!

as i said just keep topping it up ALL the time and just see how it goes...u cant be driving the other sex machine around all the time...

if u do want to repair ythe car and run it as a 2.5 then find a nice lump which u can sell after---eg neil's one.... but only do this if ure current 2.5 dies for good

damn dude! that's bad! i kinda know how you feel though... i think my head lasted about 3 days after buyinh my 325i before oil started appearing in the oil!

do you reckon it's a gasket or cracked head? if it's just a gasket, you could use wondaweld (Ԛ£15 ish). it'll bodge it back together for a fair while! if the head needs to come off but isn't cracked i can get it skimmed for Ԛ£17 if that helps. my local engine machining bunch wanted Ԛ£50 to crack test and Ԛ£50 to skim! s0d that!

I'll leave it for now...

I'll see what appears in the pipeline...!

Not certain if it's the head or head gasket just yet!
