Hi guys just started my 2nd M50 project this time my base cars a 316i, and im looking to upgrade the brakes a little :o On my last one i went for the Z3 rear disks and E36 328 front disks and this stops very well, but im not happy with the way the front wheel sits back in the arch even with the eccentric bushes, so this time i would like to keep the E30 suspension geometry and was thinking of getting E30 325 rear arms for the back so i can have disks, and then upgrade the front to E30 325i parts as well. Then i saw this Forum Link So was thinking of putting these on the front instead of buying the E30 325i front stuff, but will these go straight on the 316 leg that i've got at the moment or is there differences? Or is there any other parts i can use that go straight on for bigger brakes? Thanks for any advise.

All E30 hubs and wheel bearings are the same size apart from the M3 5 stud, so yes they will fit but why not use the 325 legs anyway? That way you have the extra diameter for bigger inserts 8)

You would ideally need E30 325i front legs as they are the bigger struts (51mm).

As for the E36 fronts, what wishbones did you use? Im pretty sure if you use the '97 on M3 Evo wishbones that sorts the wheel centreing problem you have (you still need the eccentric bushes).

I used the standard 318i wishbones, this could be why i still have a bit of an issue then. Well im going to be changing the shocks as well, so thats why i wasn't too sure on getting the 325i leg's. So if all the hubs and wheel bearings are the same for E30s then I could get aftermarket shocks for a 325i and the brake kit mentioned above? Or would the 325 shocks not meet up with the 316 hubs I have, canâ┚¬Ã¢”ž¢t remember if there bolt on or clamp in types from memory. Originally I was going to get 325 stuff all round and upgrade the disks and pads, but that would meant buying 325 legs new disks plus better pads and for not a lot more I could get that brake kit which would sort out my braking at the front? Are the top mounts and the nut holding it on the same for the smaller strut and the 51mm strut?

Thanks

Ok if i did just stay with the 325 front legs what disk/pad/brake fluid combo would you use front and back for best braking on the road not track? Thanks.

Have a look on www.300mm.de I have the 312mm on my cab. For the rear you can use e30 m3 calipers with z1 discs.

Use modded audi tt discs (easy to do) bmw e32 750 or e34 540 calipers with the adapters from 300mm job done.

I get easily confused with all these brake conversions

Using the tt discs and 540 calipers, 16" wheels will be needed?

Only some 16's will fit I belive, is there is a minimum inside diameter advisory?

What size are the tt discs?

I realise the size of the tt disc will be what dictates the wheel size, but the 540i has 15" wheels with a 302x28 disc. I also realise the 540i 15" wheels are different to the E30 15s, but you can see what Im getting at....

The tt disc is 312mm so you have to use 16" and bigger.
Here they are inside 17" wheels

The WMS 280mm kit is designed to fit inside 15" 325i BBS's and of course is lighter and more expensive - horses for courses and all that really.

We've got a 298.5mm / alloy bell version in the works as well.... :)

Not yet, there's a batch of the brackets that have been ordered from our shiny-new-CNC-part machinists but I don't have a lead time at the moment... :(
