ok mrs just bought an e36 :roll: 318i

it had the head done last week incl crack test and skim etc
was supposedly all done proper and blead afterwords etc

last owner been driving 3 days since it was done

we just picked it up all was fine 20mile trip

mrs pulls up behind me on drive and cars overheating
up into the red :cry: undid bleed screw withheater on as per e30 which brings temp down until you retighten the screw then it boils up again withion a couple minutes :cry:

no sign of oil/water mix etc

any ideas folks??

previous owner is coming to look tomoro and if cant sort it will be taking car back but your oppinions are worth more to me than anyone elses
so if ya have any ideas let me know

ps L reg 318i se not sure if thats still m40?? has a weird shaped bendy inlet manifold if that helps

more then likely its the water pump as they were plactic or fan

Had one the other week where the electronic valve in front of the heater matrix had failed in a fully closed position and so wasn't allowing water away from the head.

Hi Wife got 316i compact P reg.so I don't know if same engine but had similar problem.I changed thermostat and flushed out the system touch wood everything has been fine since.The car was sitting in car dealers lot for a while so I was wondering if the viscous fan took a while to get working properly.
