can anyone tell me if the gearbox from a 325i 1986 would be the same ratios and fitment as my 1991 318is?

wondering whether or not to take it off the car before it's scrapped as a spare
gearboxes???

im not sure but the 325i and 318is have different engines so at a guess i would say they are different.

I believe the fitment is different, i.e the bell housing stud pattern will not swap/match and the bell housing is fixed to the box, so these can't just be swapped across.
Not sure if M3 box would fit up, given the iS engine shares some commonality to the S14 in the M3, but I could be talking a lot of smelly brown stuff there.

saves me from having to take it out of the car i suppose. i'll have to do something with the box in my is eventually cos the synchro is going in second gear and as i intend to rally it a more improved set of ratios would be better. what is the m3 box like anyhow? it's the dogleg getrag box isn't it? does it have a tall 1st and short everything else? any opinions on it?
