she's chipped i think unichip, i dont now what she's putting out (bhp)

ok guys iv'e got my learning books out: Teach me please
:x I WANT MORE POWER, What is Best inturms of bang for buck conversion
e34 525i 24v (fear not a great differance),e28 m535,e34 535.
what do i use for 330 conversion, are there any good one's im missing

if this happens again i might want to turbo the new motor
i havent given a (bhp aim coz i waying the options)

oh and would it be better 2 buy the whole car for spares or just part by part

ok youve got a higher compression version....better off in my unbiased opinion to go for turbo ......best bang for buck as ...those engines aint gonna see 230bhp bolted in from donor..you are gonna get the various fans on now....another debate me thinks....

Different people favour different ways to get there power fix, some like turbos and some like engine swaps/etc

turbo browns is early high comp...upto what boost this is ok ,i dont know...i keep sayin high compression,i mean higher as the prefacelift is not accepted as a high comp engine in the real world.

you said BEST BANG FOR BUCK... the engines you quoted arnt in my book, best bang for buck-budget 2.7eta build maybe due to its low price.....if you want power as said say 300 bhp which option is proven ,cheaper.....forced induction..but you saidd in the end you may want turbo....so youve answered your own question.... winkeye

I drove a 2.5 24v converted E30 today - I can tell you now, there is a difference over the 2.5 12v.

When you say '330 conversion', what do you mean?

E36 M3 3.0ltr 24v engine :D

Its basically the same conversion as using the E36/E34 M50 2.5 engine, but with a few more headaches along the way and more money needed 8O

it was called a shadowline it came with 325is evo1 race checked interior, pre facelift, used the same motor as the e34 525i 24v, and before i put my chip on my current e30 there is no chance they would run together ( she was fast)

E36 m3 motor big hassle to convert ? ( lots and loads of cash +/- ?)

is it possible 2 use 530i e34 motor and would there be a great differance in spendature
also know of any good sites or places to find a motor or is it better to by the whole car so i have spares

M3 engines arent cheap in the first place and then you need to budget for exhaust manifold work, exhaust work and uprated suspension and brakes.

If youre going to the trouble of fitting the 530i motor (assuming M30) you may as well fit the 535i motor - much more worth while with the same amount of work as the 530i motor.

I bought just the engine, box etc, but buying a complete donor car is sometimes worth it - you can always make some money back selling the bits you dont need/use.

S38 is a monster conversion. Same problems as the S50 with regards to exhaust manifolds etc and same as the M30 with regards space and the need for custom engine mounts.

Heres one M5 S38 conversion thats being done here on the Zone... Click Here

You can pick up a complete 535i/735i (M30) or 525i (M50) for a couple hundred notes normally - you know the rusty MOT failures, thats probably the easiest way.
If you dony want to get a donor car and just want the engine/box you could try any of the BMW breakers listed in the back of PBMW/TBMW mags. FAB, Quarry and BM Bitz come to mind.

so i would require custom engine mounts for m30 aswell/ what about m50 also cust mounts?

and with m5o do i need to change the manifold ( although i probably would put a tubular one on in any case)

sideshafts, propshaft, diff, or is m50 more or less plug and play

(funny story though)

a guy back home wiyh a dakar yellow e36 m3 had it turbo'd and gased, came collection time i had been at my freinds car lot across the road, and we were to keen to see this beaut.
the mechanic told the owner, ok when driving dont pump gas in first or summin along those lines,
the owner said in his thick accent "hey boet iv'e been driving for years, i know what can and can't be done.
he settled everything, got in his car, and squeezed her flat in first, and um ....... pop

if unichip works as a piggy back on to your current ecu (what i have now)

then megasquirt would be to replace the whole ecu for an aftermarket performance one without any piggyback?

is this correct?

Maxx looks good, 16x16 tables are Ok ( MS is 12x12 but dual tables make that 24x24 if you wanted )

software looks nice and logical/easy to use, cant find a timing trim function on there Andrew, is this TBA still ? costs would be nice too, for comparison sake.

must say, Maxx looks easy to get up and runing outa the box  but I'm staying MS, its taken me almost 3 years to get my head around all the software and harware variables, need to rest a while before the next challenge
