Hi,

My car still idle's at around 1000-1500rpm (e30 320i 1987)

Can someone please list as many things as possible that could be causing my car to idle so high.

The engine thats in my car doesnt have the electric idle control valve, its just got a little white plastic valve which I have cleaned.

Ive removed all off the breather pipes and found a couple of splits, which I have replaced but still no improvement.

I also found a little hole in the Main air hose that runs from the airflow to the throttle. (the big ribbed hose)
When I cover the hole the revs get higher!! when I let some air get into the hole, the revs drop!

Does the car need more air?
Could it be over fueling?
If so how would I resove it?

Any Ideas? :(

Cheers in advance!

change the hose and get the afm cleaned too if yiu have a place to do it, and then if you havent changed the icv sensor, (white one by the thermostat) get a new one in there.

also see if the throttle switch is closing back properly and the cable is loose-ish on idle,

i wish i knew more mate, but ive only learned what i Ԛ´thinkԚ´ i know off of the zone, so i could be chattin out my ringpeice on this one gabs

You sure it doesn't have a ICV, this could be the problem! is there a disconnected cable. I thought all the injection cars had a ICV.

You need to get a picture up! let us see what you've got connected.

OK, here i can prove what little i know about 6 pots!

The white valve isn't your ICV, its part of the emission system.

The pipe to the left of the white valve looks like it's been blocked off....

I really don't know what's going on here, what's the regulator that is attached to the throttle cable bracket? looks vacuum controlled... perhaps this is the idle controller. Help i'm lost

PS. why does your number plate read backwards in your sig pic...

your car is fitted with a first generation system which is slightly simpler than the facelift models but it relys on less reliable systems to control the idle speed. the actuator with the vacuum pipe going to the inlet manifold should move out slightly when the engine is returning to idle speed then move back in allowing the throttle to close properly ,make sure it still moves and the vacuum pipe is okay and is allowing the throttle to close properly. have you played with any of the screws on the throttle body?
i hope this helps ,if you need any parts fot it i have got a scrap one that runs okay

I have checked the throttle and it closes properly, the vacuum pipe is fine and the actuator moves in and out as you have mentioned.

Ive not touched any screws on the throttle body although a friend of mine has mentioned that there should be a screw that you can adjust to alter the revs on the throttle, But my one doesnt seem to have it.

Im off down to the garage in about 30minuted to go over every thing again :( .

Thanks for the reply
Dave
