today i set about cleaning the engine bay of my E30 project (i was bored!) and noticed that the accelerator cable was way toooo slack, so i tightened it up a few thread's
... then my mate thought "OH i'll tighten up this cable for the big man" ... to which i knew nothing about
till tonight i thought, think i'll take the 320 a spin ..... all was fine till ?? no gear change from the Auto box!! my mate told me later that he had a go at tightening a cable, to which he pointed at a cable which runs from the acc/ linkage to the gear box, i tried to slaken it of but it actualy feel's like it's came off at the gearbox end? is this posable ... would this effect the Auto box from changing gear??
sorry i'm slightly tippsey ... and i'm not best
at the best of times at describing fault's!

I dont know if this will help you.

Distance between cable stop and end of cable sleeve at idle 0.50 +- 0.25 mm
With accelerator pedal in kick down position 44.0 mm (minimum)

The box end is shown in the 1 st pic its the one in the middle. you have to loosen the nut. push the selector lever forwards (towards the engine), pull the selector cable rod back and tighten the nut.

would i be right in thinking that with my mate tightening the cable then he has jammed on the "kick down" ? .... just gonna go out and slacken it back off and see what happens

it's fine... kinda
the part the hammer slot's in to had spun round (out of site) but after 2hrs of lying in the rain under a car that's only sitting on 6" lump's of wood under each wheel
i decided F--- it!! and i went to ASDA for a carry oot
it's thee most fiddly thing ive ever tried to sort, i think converting it to a manual would be a quicker job!
hopefully it'll be dry tomorrow
