Central locking has worked fine, then all of a sudden tonight, car opened at my G/f's house, when i got home and locked it (using door lock) it only locks the drivers door, then tryed the key in the passenger door, same thing, just locks the passenger door.
BUT,
Put the key in the boot, and it locks both doors (central locking working)

Opens with either door as it should, just wont lock.

Obviosuly it cant be the fuse, or it wouldnt work with the boot, maybe it just had a spaztic moment and it'll be right in the morning.

Any other ideas ?

Alex.

Hi mate

I'm assuming that M3's are the same as the rest of the range with regards to door pins here...
sitting in your drivers seat open the door and look at the hinge area where the door meets the body at the front - there is a rubber boot thing that holds all the wires that go from the wiring loom into the door. if you pull the boot aside you'll see a white connector with the wires coming out. The door pins (electrical connections) in question are inside this connector, and are very often corroded and in a mess. I found that only one of mine needed replacing - clipped and stripped the wire, put in a new connector and hey presto - working central locking :D

if its not that, then maybe its your central locking module?

Ah right,

But ! Surely if it was them, would the interior light not be a bit tempremental also ?
Seems to work intermittently. Real Annoying not had chance yet to get the back off the door. :x

Not neccesarily - my interior lights and electric mirrors worked fine while my central locking wasn't working (there are about 10 wires that run into the door from the main body of the car, the only one that had a dodgy connection on mine was the central locking wire).

And just to clarify - you don't have to take anything off the door (trim etc) - you just have to look at where the door meets the car while you have the door open (sit in the car with your door wide open and look towards your knee)

If you have a look in the articles section of the site there is a central locking guide in the Common Fault Repair section - have a look at the last two pictures - thats the connector you're looking for

hope you get it sorted, it's a great feeling when you do!
