I understand from some previous queries that BMW dolphin grey could be one of 3 shades.....I'm about to have the front spoiler/boot lid resprayed and obviously want the best match. Is there anyway you can identify what " shade " the car is painted from idents etc. .......,being all original paintwork at present ,.......or is it a spraymans black art ?

not he best colour to match panel to panel, especially on a aged car with original paint, the front spoiler wont be so bad as its down below and not in ya face so if colour slightly out you would`t notice to much, but the best thing to do with the boot would be to blow it over the tops of the rear wings and blend it in then you would`t even tell at all, anyway could get deeper in to explaining but if their a reputable body shop you`ve no need to worry, theyll use their black art and youll never notice.
where abouts in sunny cumbria are ya m8?

no they dont have different codes for the colour, their varients of dolphin grey, meaning that for example, there will be a standard shade, a lighter shade, a darker shade.

Lots of BMW colours have different shades. There's a fourth number at the end of the paint code, separate from the main three, that I always assumed was the shade variation.
Won't help with matching faded colours of course.
