i am sick to death of my car and have come to you guys to make a decision

basically after a whole ordeal with the manifold studs and shit my head gasket went junking the cylinder head,
it still drives but is getting worse and worse as days go by!

atm i am in big money problems so just fixing it wont work!

i came to the conclusion i got 2 options

150-200 will get me a basic cylinder head swap and repair with gaskets etc (my engines is the 320i)

but i could upgrade to the 325i engine for the same price! (problem being nowere to lift an engine and no idea how)

now i know the car wont survive much longer , i cant afford to repair her just like that and i cant sell her cos she wont be worth shit! what do i do!!!

there she is poor thing

I can sympathise with the money situ. I was hoping to take my 320i cab off the road and do a neninge change for something meatier. Even found the donor car. 535i manual with 100k on the clock Ԛ£1k. Loverly condition. Could have recovered some money from fragging the e34 was it had beige leather interior too. Would have had a 2ltr lump to lose with 83k on the clock too!!

Oh well!! Looking for a better job now so hopefull will still realise my dream. Hang in there mate, I'm sure the zone will offer a very affordable solution before long!

Wait for a while, save up and drop in a 2.5 lump.

The swap is simple to do and you can hire out a engine crane for as little as Ԛ£25 for the weekend. If your local i can help you if you want.

Do you have rear disk brakes on at the mo??

You can still run the 25 on the standard gearbox and diff, but after a while they will give way.

If your cuatious of screwing up, a engine swap from a garage should cost around Ԛ£250 labour??? if that helps?

If you do an engine swap your insurance will be up too, can you afford that. I know it sounds harsh but can you afford to run an e30 might be better off with a cheaper car I'm not having a go at you I sympathise I can't afford to run a 911 so I dont have one.

dont worry about insurance, its the same to look at as a 320 engine. they will only find out if they look on the side of the block. sounds to me like you need some help. get a pre facelift engine for about 100, im sure some people on the zone will help you fit it. come on guys! hes in the shit!

if you swap to a 2.5 id 'forget' to tell the insurance as the engine looks the same so no one would know.but if your to skint to afford that then the only other option is to take it off the road for a while and learn to fix it yourself.its always better to fix it while your not forking out running costs, insurance, tax etc. i regularly leave mine at home and take the bus to work as it saves me about Ԛ£40 a week in fuel

maybe someone on here can help with a cheap 320 head and
some one else with the work on putting it on the car
over a day/weekend the car will run again

repair wat you have for the time being
cost of a gasket kit and head bolts and cambelt
keep it on the road for a while for you to save up the dosh for a 325
then the whole engine change wont be needed

its easier to change the engine from what i add up head gasket and tensioner etc plus the cost of new head and all ancilliaries would be close to 200 quid wereas enginees go for around 100-150 and then its done! i want a 2.5 but i think i may just save up for the 325 sport rather than my 4 door 320

i dont know heads a mess with money and engines
