Come on then Stu, get cracking!!! You can have a practice on my car!!!stuartgallafant wrote:the 'one-touch' windows are controlled by the ZKE general module. if you notice, an E36 window switch has a 5 stage switch:
1 - rest
2 - tilt forward slightly
3 - tilt forward all the way
4 - tilt back slightly
5 - tilt back all the way
the control unit picks up which part of the switch is being/has been activated, and then sends the appropriate power to the window motor, thus controlling the continual or sporadic movement of the window. when the window reaches its stop, the motor draws more current to try and turn the regulator. the ZKE senses this, and cuts the power to the window motor
i do believe this would be possible to install on an E30, and i would love to do it! but it would be a lot of work, scraping through wiring diagrams, etc!
however, i have heard of someone using the relays out of a Ford Mondeo, or Vauxhall Vectra, to achieve this. even Rover had a one touch drivers window!!!
If not, i'll go for whatever other option is found to work!!
Really really want this feature, was thinking about it just the other day funny enough!!

they look funny,
hmm, what do people want to do then? im getting confused,, i remember hearing maybe smithy having a crack at replicating??
ideas? should we just go for these for the ease of it all? or wait for stu's feedback on the e36 unit??

the E36 unit wont be just plug and play! like i said, its gonna be a long time tracing wiring diagrams, and then setting u your own loom and using the module to just control the windows. the ZKE module is the general module, which means that EVERY other module on the car talks to this one. however, control units are just like reall clever multiple relay's! all have a power supply, earth, input and output, but its getting it right and getting it to do what you want is the tricky bit!
as i said, rover, vauxhall and ford do relays, and so VW i believe
it can be done. when i've got more time, i'll look into it

you can buy the one touch control unit from Bavauto

Add the convenience of 'one touch' windows or sunroof to any BMW. Fully compatible with any factory BMW power window system. Simply tap the switch once and the window with travel all the way up or down. There's never any need to mount additional switches because Autoloc's BMW2T works with all BMW factory window switches. The BMW2T may be used with any remote control devices that operate your windows.

but at $119.95 im not so sure it's worth the money (or hastle of fitting)

My motorsport cab had one touch on the front windows but it was run through Clifford smat windows it did work fine knew when they were up or down and stopped fine if you wanted it to but its an expensive way off getting them but they are handy to have .
