may i also take this oppertunity to give duely deserved kudos to the man DATOURER for the original idea and thread http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?na ... 6121#36121
so its basically this.. if you have a check panel and you want it to continusly illuminate the heading lights instead 5 second time out then follow these simple instructions
there are commonly 2 different designs of check panel, although made by various manufacturers the designs are relatively similar
for the simplicity of explanation we will concern ourselves with the HELLA and VDO versions
HELLA
for the Hella type box, separation is easily acheived by parting the "lense / top casing" with the "body" element, which is usually in a contrasting white to the recognised black facia
the "lid" is held in with 4 hook type clips along the internal edge of the body( one on each side, slightly off center) and can be very fragile if prised forward too vigarously
once you have this off, the removal of the board is implicet enough
the fun start here,
score as carefully as possible the pin in the diagram, making sure the surrounding contacts and traces are not damaged in the process, as the malfunction of the board could insue

as you can see, the 4th pin up on the right hand side should be etched out or the equivelent to acheive the desired result
VDO
*for the VDO unit, the procedure is slightly more difficult, namely the construction of the unit itself causes the problem, and although the unit itself is better constructed than the Hella unit, more care need be aplied to acheive a reasonable result*
the VDO unit is a "sealed" unit in the sense that the "lid" and base element do not separate, instead the Plastic screen must be removed to acsess the internals.
the problem is the plastic is made from an acrylic, and is very, very britle, so max care should be applied to avoid cracking the screen
First , with a Stanley knife or similar solid bladed instrument prise the (with the unit facing you in the correct manner) top edge of the casing AWAY from the plastic screen, DO NOT try to "pop" the tab out as it will crack and be vey noticable upon completion. After succesfully prising the casing away use the knife to raise the lense upwards. Repeat on the lower edge in the same manner, finally prising out the RIGHT sided tab, as the left sided is huge and practically imposible to do without damage.
now the screen is off, you will have a "colour filter" which tints the lense for added effect. this can pop out with relative ease. Under here is the "chassis" which has 2 hook type clips allong the upper and lower edges of the body, these are quite robust in comparison to the screen. Pop this out to accses the board
once again, take extra care not to damage any other area than the one intended, as it could be to the detrement of your car

As you can see in the picture, it is litterally the opposite of the hella arrangement, with the pin being the 4th down on the left as opposed to the 4th up on the right
all being well, after sucsessfully scoring out the appropriate connection and reassembaling the unit without damage, the panel can now be returned to its rightful position.
The Panel will illuminate as soon as the key is moved to position 1 and remain lit until the car is switched off.
as said this is the best "mod for wad" iԚ´ve seen and is a must for those extra kudos points
A special Thank you to DaTourer for the guidence and for sending me free replacement parts for all the screw-ups allong the way , Big up yourself!!
And thanks of course to the E30 Zone and all those involved for giving the oppertunity to air and view the stuff, Top Big-ups all round
